I can't stress enough the importance of using plastic battery cases to carry your spare batteries in.

Any contact with metal (keys, coins, another battery, etc, possibly even static electricity) can complete the electrical circuit with a loose battery and cause it to hard short, and go into thermal runaway. Plastic battery cases prevent this type of catastrophe from happening. Use them, they're inexpensive.

View attachment 256789

the above accident happened just last week. A novice vapor was carrying two spare batteries in a pocket of his bookbag. One of the batteries (aw 18490 imr) went into thermal runaway after allegedly coming into contact with some metal in the bookbag. What you see are the remains of that battery - the metal casing, and the inner guts of the battery which have mushroomed out of the case. Imagine the force of the venting gas that came from this battery. In hindsight, this person should have used a pastic battery case to protect his batteries in the bookbag from touching any metal.

ack!!!!!!!!! Holy spit!

If I'm going where I need more than a couple mls of juice, this is what I typically pack up in. Perfect pocket size. Weekends or longer requires the addition of a small tackle box in my suitcase.
Sorry no Provari in there yet.... waiting on shipment of my black mini.

Sent from the backwoods of Maine.

Where did you get that case? It doesn't look like the one on Provari" site?

That's a maxpedition case. While a bit on the pricey side, they are awesome cases. I have the mini, fatty, and neatfreak organizer. Highly Highly recommended. Best prices can usually be found on Amazon.

Quality is not expensive, it's priceless!

After all we are carrying around about $300.00 of delicate, EXPENSIVE gear, thrown in a Z-Atty pro and you beat the $300.00 mark!

They have a pretty nice "Tactical Toiletry" bag, and it's only $49.00!

Tactical Provari Bag

$34.00 on Slamazon

I have an incase 13" slim laptop bag. Ideally in the front pocket of that.

Pardon me for still using pencils and land-lines, but is the pocket of the laptop bag on the inside or outside? How much "give" is in it, I mean what would be the max thickness of the carrying case...

How about a link? I'm not lazy, but if I Google 13" slim laptop bag I will be overwhelmed.

Don't mean to get off track again but have a question on batteries. I'm waiting on a couple of plastic battery cases from Provape. Can I store them individually in plastic medication bottles? How about when I throw my mini in my bag? Should I be taking the battery out while it's hanging out in my purse? After seeing the photo Bad posted, I'm realizing I've been way to lax on battery safety.

I use medicine bottles for just about everything. The ones I have are perfect for carto tanks, including drip tips!

The safest place for your battery is inside of your mini, that's where it's supposed to be. The pictures posted were of very rare occurrences and a ProVari wasn't involved. I can't remember the mod Bad's battery was in, but if I recall the firing button was pressed by accident. The young man who recently had a battery go eeek! had it loose in a backpack.

The problem occurs when the battery comes in contact with something like metal or another battery, but it doesn't happen that often. Treat your batteries with respect, but don't be afraid of them. Out of 10 million posts on ECF are there many pictures of burned batteries?

Keep in mind, all batteries have the potential to go thermal and you have been using batteries all your life. In fact, do you have other batteries in the house? AA, AAA, the C or D for flashlights? Where do you keep them?

Spare batteries need to be carried in a non-metalic container. Batteries need not be removed which are already in the Provari.

The Provari itself can be turned on/off for safe transport in a pocket or purse. The "PO" mode is where you can do this. Instructions are here:

Factory Default is: ON
Press the button 9 times in a row until Po is shown on the display.

When Po is shown on the display leave the button idle for two seconds and the display will show the last setting (On or Of).

Each time you press the button the display will toggle between on and off. When you have reached the desired setting leave the button idle for 4 seconds.

If you selected "Of", the Provari will go into standby mode.
________________________________

In Off or “standby mode” the ProVari will not activate the atomizer when the button is pressed and you will not be able to change any of the settings. This mode is good for when you want to store the ProVari in your pocket or bag and don’t want it to accidentally turn on the atomizer.

Once you have turned the device off, you can turn it back on by pressing the button 10 times to access this menu function again or you can simply remove the battery and re-insert it to turn the ProVari back on.

If you make a mistake, just press the button 9 times in a row and you will be able to make another change.

I've never turned my ProVari off. When I go out, it's usually around my neck, but if I have to put it in my purse I take the topper off and put that in a medicine bottle so it doesn't leak. In the purse I used to put the mini in a soft jewelry bag so it wouldn't get scratched, but now it's in a sleeve so I don't bother - in any case, it's in a separate compartment.

Be aware: the next time you shop for a purse, "Where will I put my vape gear?" will become the most important criteria.

Trustfire2.jpgpinkblackandpurpleBBs.jpg

It was my BB. The same mech mod that I purchased for my daughter. She is fully aware of what happened with mine and either removes the battery or the juice attachment from the BB before it is placed in a pocket or purse.

My BB was put into a pants pocket with my Silver Bullet in my locker at work. The BB's noticeably pronounced fire button got compressed against the Silver Bullet, causing rapid discharge of the protected Li Ion battery. The protected circuit in the battery failed allowing the battery to also fail and allowed it to go into thermal runaway. It melted the battery casing and blew out both ends of the battery when it vented. I didn't see flames, but my pants pocket was badly scorched. When I found the mod, it was way too hot to touch. The mod itself performed as designed, it allowed the venting gases to release through the fire button, which had to be replaced by AltSmoke.

Another example in how a regulated mod is safer than a mechanical. A regulated mod has safety features such as auto turn-off after 7 -10 seconds when firing the power button, a mechanical does not have this.

I see a Maxpedition case in my future! Thank you for the info, exactly what I was looking for. For now I'm using the case that came with my iolife PV as it has a little inside pocket for my delicates. Far from ideal, but it will hold me over until I get a battery case (thanks to this thread as well) and a maxpedition micro.

I've also started putting the batteries in mini ziplock bags my wife had laying around. I just had them in their own little pocket in my bag but now I will use the baggies whenever I transport them.

As for the tackle-box, I have one for all of my vape stuff. A nice 2 shelf system with a big bottom bin for all my fluids. Way too big to bring with me daily (though I have considered it!).

Ocelot: here is that bag that I use. The pockets give a bit, but not much. They are outside pockets, sort-of...the zipper part is attached to the main bag but then the bottom of the pocket accordians out. Dunno if that makes sense, I guess it's hard to explain.

You could use the case that Baditude (and myself) uses to carry carto tanks in.

Amazon.com: BEADSMITH COLOR CODED MINI TOOL SET & CASE: Home & Kitchen

It's not very padded, and the Mini might be pressed against whatever tanks you carry on the other side.

Here is my mini in that case

I carry my 18350 batteries in the Thinghys that came with my IBTanked tanks. (I knew those would be useful for something)

Question for the seasoned vapers like Bad 'n Ocey, where do you store your drained batteries? I was using a bubblewrap sleeve pouch thingy but now i'm re-thinking that or is that ok?

Usually when the bag gets half full I will recharge. The charged ones always remain in their plastic cases.

RHP

Like Bad, all my batteries are in plastic cases. What I do to keep track of them is I put a green color coding sticker on one side of the plastic battery box. Charged batteries face the green sticker and discharged batteries face away from the sticker.

I don't have enough batteries to need it, but you could also put a number on the sticker to help keep track of your battery rotation.

I don't think those pockets expand or will protect much. One thing I've seen a few use is an old hard shell / clam shell type eyeglass case. It's easy to cut out a small section of closed cell foam to fit and then cut out sections to fit mod, tank, battery, etc and keep them from moving around. They aren't long enough for a mini p + tank to fit assembled. I'm planning on doing that to hold spare tank/juice and spare battery in. It will keep the items together and protected from banging around in my purse. It should fit into the sleeve of your computer case nicely.

Another option I've seen but haven't tried was the hard case cigar cases. Someone posted a picture of one holding a provari and tank nicely. They had a multi-cigar case which allowed them to carry extras in the other sections. I think Provape is selling a variation of a cigar case (which would work too). There's a wide variety of styles available. It might be worth a vist to a (ugh) smoke shop to see what fits. Anyway, for convienence;

Amazon.com - Cigar Caddy® 3400

Amazon.com: Three Large Cigar Leather Pouch - Black: Everything Else

Amazon.com - New - Volker Triple Gunmetal Cigar Case - VCASE905
