Hello everyone. I decided it's time for a proper hobby. Rebuilding may just be it, I'm very interested.
I'm a big fan of the ProVari+nautilus BVC combo, but many of the ProVarinati also happen to be REOnauts, and there must be a reason why.
So, I'm looking into getting a REO or possibly a REO mini.
I just don't know enough about these things.
What's the difference between a Low Profile REO and a regular?
Which Reomizer should I get? There are six versions...I'm not a huge fan of flavor, I find tobacco and subtle flavors to be more enjoyable than punch you in the face flavor, but I feel what I'm needing is more vapor, and a warmer vape. Overly sweet or flavored vapes tend to leave an affertaste in my mouth that I don't like.
Why the REO over other vaporizers in this category?
Should I get a mini or fullsize?
What type of wire?
I like the idea of 100% organic hemp wicking material, what kind should I get?
What is a KICK and do I need one?
Is the woodvil actually made of wood?

Thanks everyone, I know that's a lot of questions, but I have complete and utter faith that you fine members of ECF will be all knowledgeable in these matters.

Here's a kick at some answers for you - you'll get plenty more...

What's the difference between a Low Profile REO and a regular?
The LP version has a shallower catch cup (where the atty screws in) which allows you to use most any bottom feeding atty on it. The "standard" reos with the taller catch cup will only allow smaller diameter atties to fit, so going LP is really the way to go for flexibility.

The most versatile version is the Grand. Despite it's name, it's not large at all (smaller than most DNA boxes) - about the size of a business card on the face and about an inch in depth. It allows for use of 18650 batteries, which give you the longest charge life and best max amperage ratings (Ohms Law and all that).

Why the REO over other vaporizers in this category?
Because it's the best - durable, simple, convenient, best performance, and super customer support. It is, in most respects, in its own category (save some boutique mods which are rare). Five years after a vapocolypse there will be one device still functioning as good as the day it was made... the reo.

Should I get a mini or fullsize?
I'd go for the full sized Grand per above.

What type of wire?
Pretty much all of us use kanthal. What gauge? Well, that's a deep topic. I will say that 28 gauge is a good size to start working with - versatile in the range of coils you can make and easy to work with. From there you can experiment with bigger (26 or 24 gauge) and smaller (30 gauge).

I like the idea of 100% organic hemp wicking material, what kind should I get?
Hemp has its following, but most folks in here use either cotton (Japanese raw organic pads, like Koh Gen Do, are the current top choice) or a ceramic wick called READYxWICK, which is very durable and can last months with regular cleaning (dry burning).

What is a KICK and do I need one?
A kick is a module that adds regulation to the power supply. The authentic kick is made by the same company that gives us the DNA boards (Evolv). It lets you adjust the power/volts delivered from the battery to the coil dial up or down just like you do with the Provari. It also provides some extra measure of safety for short protection. Do you need one? Not so much. While it might seem intimidating to you now, you'll get the hang of controlling your vape through adjustments in build configuration and there is short protection on the reo in the form of a collapsable spring if/when there's a hard short.

Is the woodvil actually made of wood?
It's actually made of unicorn horn. Kidding... I'm kidding. Yep - it's made of wood. Exotic and carefully crafted, luxurious wood. Rob's quality and attention to detail with these is impeccable. They are only available during special sales (Rob can't keep them in stock, generally) and in the classifieds (although difficult to imagine, people do sell them from time to time).

Hopefully this gives you some food for thought. My advice would be to keep hanging out in here - read the user advice threads in the sticky section, and solicite all the advice you can from the kind and knowledgeable folks who inhabit reoville.

Also, do read up all you can on rebuildables (Ohms Law, battery safety, and such). There's no such thing as knowing too much on that topic.

<ahem> Just realized I duffed your second question.

In terms of which reomizer to get, the base standard for most reonauts is the RM2. It's a great atty and pretty much all have one in our gear stash. If flavour is an issue for you, you can always cut the juice with straight PG or VG. You're going to see a flavour jump with any juice in going from a nauti to a reo/RDA, so this would/could be in your future no matter what you choose.

i guess I'll chime in cuz I just like the sound of chimes.....

no, really, go to the sticky threads, there's an amazing amount of them that will answer all your questions, but if you can't seem to find them, c'mon back here and someone will take care of you....tho Papa did a very good job.

There are so many choices now in the Reo metals and the RBA's on the Reo site, it's almost mind-blowing. Please take your time figuring out what will work best for you and then go ahead and buy two of them.....

cuz after the first experience with a Reo, you will, trust me, you will...ask me how I know:D

Papa nailed it.
My take on atomizers:
Rm2 is a great unit all around; simple build, great flavour, and really shines with mouth to lung hits. LP and non-LP options.
Rm3 is a suped up Rm2, with the option to run dual coils. Perhaps an under utilized atty, but is excellent. Lp and non-LP
Rm4 is an Atomic clone. Adjustable airflow, single or dual coils, versatile in mouth to lung or straight lung hits. This was my first Reo atty, and I really enjoyed it. The flavour is quite respectable, vapor can be huge, and the build isn't overly difficult, but can get tight with certain dual coils. LP only
Rm6 is a Stillaire, that sums it up. Great choice for the lung hitters, very popular among the non-reo crowds as well. LP only.
Then there is the non-Rob attys(ies?): Cyclone by Vicious ant, comparable to Rm2 in near every aspect (personal opinion.) Shines with single coil and mouth to lung. An adjustable air flow cap is available for it, which is nice to have as an option. LP with or without AFC cap, non-LP without AFC cap.
Personal favourite: The Odin by LokiLab. Single or dual coil, clouds and flavour. Straight forward build, deep juice well, cool logo... This is my go to, and several members will agree with this (ex: Super X videos.) LP only.
Now these are not the only options (obvs) but the options I've used.

Papa summed it up beautifully. I have absolutely nothing to add either, but would like to clarify a bit. The atty you want will depend on your vaping style as much as anything. If you draw mouth then to lung, the RM2 is IT. If you draw straight to the lungs, then the others would be in your field of choice.

Don't get me wrong, all of the attys on Robert's site can be used either way, but the way they come from him, the RM2 for mouth to lung, the others are more for straight to lung, or are specialized for dual coils, adjustable airflow, etc.

There are threads here about each one, I believe, so if you don't vape MTL, or, you want to venture into dual coils or NEED adjustable airflow, read up on them.

You've made an astute observation about many of the Nati's also owning REOs, I'm confident you'll be quite happy with what you purchase from Robert, and, as said, the folks here will practically fall over themselves to help you get it all dialed in to a slick, functional, nearly indestructible package.

Thanks everybody, so I think I've decided I'll go for it. My next problem now, is choosing an atty.
With so many rba's out there that are capable of bottom feeding, I'm not really sure where to begin.
Thanks for the tips soft sell, I've been eyeing the vicious ant cyclone, but grimm's review kinda turned me off to it when he said sometimes if you pull the cap off, juice goes everywhere.
I'll look into the odin, sounds cool, unless anyone knows of an rba named 'the wolf' or something?
So the next question would be, anyone know where I can get a brass rm2?

Papa summed it up nicely. All you need now are links to all the right places... so you don't get the wrong stuff. It may take some time to zone in on your coil build to find the sweet spot for your juice, but once you do that... it's all down hill.

I got a Copper Vein LP + Brass RM2 two months ago. Best decision I've ever made. I know this is subjective, but I'll say it anyway. Nothing on the market beats a Reo Grand. Hands down...it's the best vaping experience I've ever had with any e-cig on the market.

If you do get a Reo, and don't like it... don't worry. You'll be able to get nearly all of your money back because they DO hold their value in the Classifieds. Doesn't matter if it's Metal or Wood. They usually go within 24hours of posting.
