I started off on a basic 510 setup "yeti" and then upped that to an ego which is still going strong. But I would like to have a backup before it dies on me I only have the one ego battery so if it happens I'm sol.

So I'm looking for something that's in between an ego and a full blown big battery mod.

My current thoughts are
New! 5v Wow Mod
Electronic Cigarette - Batteries - Joye eGo-T MOD
Both are similar form factor, but really I just need to know what to expect from the difference in voltage. While I currently use boge lr I'm planning to use the ego mega cartos at least some of the time so which would provide the best all around vape?

Don't mind switching to boge 3.0 ohm's but running through an ohm's law calculator it seems the 3.0 at 5v will be a bit warmer than 2.0 ohm at 3.7. Is it still in an acceptable range or would I be scorching my liquid?

Really I just want to be able to replace the batteries rather than the whole device

DaveP gave a great explanation on carto ohms/voltage in this thread:

...both of those are good picks...the 3.7v version will last the longest batt wise and the 5v @ 3ohms will really rock...another low cost option is a 5v or VV boxmod, madvapes has them for cheap and smoktek.com had a VV box mod made with the evercool style chip(maximize efficiency)...I have a couple of E-Powers and an evercool box mod and mostly use the box mod set at 5v with 3ohm cartos.............

Unless there are any other "ego" styled mods I'll probably end up with the 5v cause from what I hear the DC cartos are much better 4v+.

Main reason I'm kinda clinging to the ego design is the mega cartos, I like the idea of carto tanks but sticking them in my pocket just sounds like a death wish for a few ml's of juice and an awkward stain.

Also I just got my chip from TI for the evercool box mod(free sample FTW) so once I gather up the rest I'll have that to fiddle around with too I guess.

An Epower is similar in size to the eGo but is 3.7V regulated and it uses non-proprietary batteries like other tube mods do. I use an Epower and love it. Everything is replaceable on it so it's much cheaper to maintain than an eGo. Epower batteries cost $4-5 compared to eGo/kGo/riva batteries that are $14-20, and they last a lot longer before they need to be replaced. The batteries are 1050mah and I get avg a day to a day and a half on one battery. You couldn't use the eGo mega dual coils without an adapter but you wouldn't need to do that bc the Epower has their own dual coil, specifically designed for it that is 1.5ohm and holds 6ml of juice which is more than the eGo DCs hold.
I'm not really a fan of dual coils at lower voltages so I don't use the Epower dual coils, but they do work well. I use the 1.7ohm Ressurector cartos and they work awesome. I use them in a 3.5ml tank and can vape all day without needing to refill or switch batteries, yet it's still small enough that I can easily carry it around in my pocket.

For future reference, Ego is not 3.7 - it's 3.4, but interesting what you linked is actually some new Ego-T mod I had not seen - dunno if that would be 3.7v or not - it says it's regulated not not whether it has a booster to regulate to 3.7 or is it just regulated to 3.4 like Ego.

I do vape 3 ohm Boges on 3.7v (since I share the cartos with my slim 510 model). The 3.7v makes them noticeably warmer w/ more vapor when a 3.7v device is freshly charged, and not so much later in the charge as the voltage starts slipping down toward 3.4v then eventually cuts out at 3.25v or thereabouts.

So 5v will be HOT compared to 3.7 and also require more diligence in keeping cartos damp. You might also consider a VV box mod with evercool/varicool circuit - for about $55 you can get one from Smoktek.com or from Old Goat in ECF Buying & Selling (add to that the cost of 2 batteries, 2 spares and the charger)

I carry my Epower with a full smoktech 3.5ml tank in my pocket and never have a problem. You can buy cartos for the tank that have a metal base on them so the tank can't slide down and leak. CCV sell pre-punched Ressurector cartos that have the metal base for the Smoktech tanks. I use the metal base Ressurectors and a Big-belly drip tip on it bc they fit really snug and they have a slightly larger diameter than the carto. The metal base Ressurectors stop the tank from sliding down and the big-belly drip stops the tank from sliding up. So between the 2 you don't have to worry about the carto moving while it's in your pocket and leaking everywhere. I carry 2 of those tanks everywhere, one on my Epower and another in my pocket with my other favorite juice and I haven't had the slightest issue with either of them leaking.
Geez I hope I didn't just jinx myself and have both tanks spill everywhere tomorrow, ha
