Well, aside from looks or body style, contact material used, and switch design is something to pay attention to ... I think the smoktech magneto is great starter mod. The newer version has an adjustable 510 pin w/brass contacts, and of course a magnetic switch, and it's telescopic. For a beginner I think that telescoping mods are a good idea, as its easier to change battery configurations.

As a new vaper you want something that is tried and true, the Smoktech Magneto fits that bill. Once you get to know mechanicals it will become much easier to figure out what you like and prefer in terms of switch design, and tube vs telescoping.

Nikkita pretty much sums it up. That Magneto was my first choice for my first mech mod (outside of my Reo Grand). Alas, the shop was out of stock, and I needed instant gratification. The adjustable 510 pin in itself is a really nice option to have. And telescoping is definitely easier to get the hang if running diff. sized batteries or flat tops vs. button top batteries, etc.

If you're not in a major rush, i'd wait till 101vape gets some stuff (particularly all the Hcigar clones) back in stock, they are VERY competitive on price for a US vendor, will have it to you fast and restock relatively quickly usually.

If you find something that interests ya, i recommend signing up for the restock notifications, their stuff sells out pretty quickly.

They had magnetos too at a decent price until very recently, they're now sold out.

What do you mean by FT clogged?? Did you mean closed? If so, there are in fact open for business, the holiday is over. FT carries the Authentic Magneto, as well as a few clones, the best of which I wouldn't recommend because they have crystals, lol, but wholly molly the quality is awesome ... The wooliston/magneto clone from FT receives ok reviews, although I have heard some complaints about threading, and play in the telescopic tube, while others completely loved it.

Fasttech has a few other solid mod choices as well, like the Chi You (the laser engraved $24 version), the Launcher V2 which you would probably enjoy, and its reviewed well, of course the Nemesis, the Astro, Private V2 (ss version). There are plenty of reviews and discussions on the site, so I would take a look around.

If I had to recommend something similar from Focalecig it would be the Avenger/EMI mod, which is ss, telescopic, copper contacts, and a spring loaded firing switch (but 21mm), or the Astro, also telescopic, with adjustable pins. Focal does not carry the Magneto, or any clones of it.

I am also looking at buying a Mechanical Mod, and maybe the OP has noticed the same things I have on the majority of these Mechanical Mods ... Unlike the button on my Vision 'Spinner' VV battery which is located on the upper side of the battery (basically winds up being in the middle of the unit once the Clearomizer is installed on top of the battery) ... most of these Mechanical Mods have the button on the very bottom of the Mod (battery tube).

I think it would be awkward vaping on this thing if you had to somehow push the bottom of the unit when you take a puff.

On the side, like this Vision battery (very easy to press with your thumb while vaping):

I picked up a stainless steel EMI Avenger clone from Desire e-cigs ($60 for free shipping) - very nice telescopic mod with copper contacts top and bottom. Only thing I didn't like was the logo on the bottom since the shape is rounded and the mod would wobble even with the lock ring set. I pulled it off and now the bottom is brass and SS - looks and works much better. Also, the button throw is very short and very low effort - I like the button feel better than either of my magnetic button switch mods.

There are several different bottom side button and top side button mechs, such as the Roller, GG, 69, Natural and all their respective clones, just to name a few.

Regarding the bottom button mechs, once you're used to the grip/way you hold mods depending on build, you rarely if ever notice it. Only ever an issue if your fire button spring/magnets are too stiff or too weak.

I was thinking about getting one of these Caravela clones from FastTech. I don't think the bottom button is a magnetic type (just some simple design)

$21.50 Caravela Style Mechanical Mod Full Kit at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Good or bad design? I don't have a clue

The button isnt the concern on that one (afaik) but i despise that topcap/pin design and it is known to have issues with flush mounting attys without a gap either between the atty/mod or mod/topcap. The original came with different pins (i believe) the clone DOES NOT.

Instead of that Cara i'd probably recommend looking into the Chi-You's (double adjustable pin, get the brass one for less voltage drop) or Nemesis (double adjustable, via pin and via switch throw), FT has both.

If you have some time and want to spend a tiny bit more to guarantee you get a high quality clone, wait till 101vape gets the hcigar mechs back in stock and look into their Chi's and Nemmys.
