Hey guys I just joined but celebrating my one year analog free anniversary. I have been into mech mods and rdas. My current is copper overdose by mcv and mutation x v2. I just bought a kayfun v4 to replace my 3.1. Loved the 3.1 but it was a pain to fill and rewick. The v4 however is great. Only problem is I was dumb and bought a dna 30 mod from my freedoms smokes which turned out to be a clone. This pi$$ed me off but I shoulda known better for $100. I am using the kayfun on that but want to go a little lower in resistance. Currently I have a 1.7ohm chimney build but want to go lower like maybe .5 - .8. Can anyone suggest a decent box mod preferably 18650 considering I have a bunch of batteries, that can handle it and maybe take it up higher than my mech mod would. Thanks in advance.

Sigelei 100w + is one of the best in terms of quality chip and build and a great bang/buck value:

Sigelei 100 Watt PLUS

It's $90 and "jan15" will get you 15% off of that price.

Eciggity has the 50w but I'm guessing the 100w is what you want if you're used to running sub ohms on a mech. IPV has some similar offerings but the sigeleis seem to be getting better reviews.

As I'm posting this, I'm wondering why I'm not buying one?

That's not good in my opinion. Although it's not charging them is it really that much riskier? Should I just stay higher ohm .8 to 1.2 and get something lower wattage?

Using batteries in series is not bad, as long as you follow a couple of simple rules: Marry them, always charge them in parallel (NOT in the mod!) and don't discharge them below where they should be. (And, of course, basic battery prudence, such as look at them before and after you put them in the charger, make sure the shrink-wrap is ok, and no distortions or staining)
