I have 3 Chinese 5V passthrus (1 V4L, 2 v2icgs) made by the same manufacturer that I have totally abused with cartos, 510 atty's, eGo attys, and even the ego-T attys for few days. No problems whatsoever. Still going strong in house and car. I bought them all in November/December 2010.

It seems like everyone is complaining about 5V passthrus breaking these days. I wonder if there is huge particularly bad batch floating around. When did you buy yours?

Yes, those 5V acrylic PTs from MadVapes are quite good. They (and other 5V passthroughs) are best used with a 2 amp AC to USB Adapter, such as sold by MadVapes for $9.

The top-of-the-line passthrough probably is VaprLife's $60 VP-PT.

Thanks Don. BTW... very nice job on the vaping guides. They really helped me get started right. Without that information, I doubt I would have been able to get my heels dug in anywhere near as quickly (code for: Man I would have wasted a lot of money figuring out what I really wanted/needed).

You did a great to me and many others. Pat yourself on the back for me and Vape Well!

Lasted less than a week. Cord gave where it attaches to the PT.

yep. That's what happens Tehy don't have stress reduction grommets on em for some idiot reason. Thos littel ribbed bits on the base of any electric cord except apple power supplies that have the same problem) I don;t know of any pass through that actually has one, so I put on my own. I suggest either several layers of heat shrink tubing or buying a pack of disposable silicone "sharing" tips (freedomsmoke sells em iirc) take the tip and slit it part way up to get it over the base of the passthrough. Then take a little clear silicone caulk, fill the void and tape it closed ofr a day till it dries. You can even see the light through it and it's even more comfortable to hold

Master DaBoomVape,
Which cartomizers are best to use with the 5 volt devices?

this thread is like 9 months old buddy. he's not gonna respond. anything but low resistance cartomizers will work fine. to be honest i'm not sure why it's recommended to not use low resistance because i use them on mine with great results.

i got a cheap little 808 passthru and to be honest i've been nothing but impressed with it. 12 bucks at electronicstix.com

that being said, i think there's alot of user error when it comes to passthru's. i mean, they're small, thin cords, you would think it would be common sense to NOT yank on them while they're attached to the computer or wherever or yeah obviously the cord's going to de-tach from the pv.

just my .02

Sorry for my delay in replying, vafromnc. Cartomizers of resistance levels between ~3 ohms and ~4 ohms should work well. See my article on LR and HV atomizers for background and use this online calculator to determine resulting watts and amps levels.
