Hey everyone!

I'm looking to purchase my first setup and and I'm wondering what everyone thinks about the Kanger topbox mini, joyetech evic vtc mini? Ive done some reading and the joyetech seem to be the favorite I'm wondering what makes it a better mod?

Also is something like the yihi sxmini m class worth double the price of other mods?
Get the VTCmini,, proven track record. I use mine as a Beater,,can't kill it.

The Yihi sx mini is pricey for 2 reasons,
Superior engineering/ Chip.
What the Market will bear..

Thank you for all the responses. I was kind of apprehensive about going to a vape shop but I'm going to stop by one and check it out. Thanks again everyone!

Be sure to check out prices before settling in as well. A B&M store will by its nature charge more than an online vendor. It can be worth it if they spend time walking you through how things work, especially starting out, and if they provide warranty/some sort of post sale service if something doesn't work. If the prices are markedly different ($89 for a $35 Pico kit) then it's a matter of your wallet and your patience for stuff to be shipped instead of walking out the shop with it.

It certainly can be worth it. I upset a gadget vendor (not e-cigs) once by checking the prices online. He got so mad with me
I explained, calmly, that I wasn't expecting him to match the prices, I just wanted to get an idea of the extra cost, because, well, I didn't want to spend £99 on something available online for £40. There are some lines I will not cross.
In the UK, the worst offenders are not marking up the mods and tanks too much, they're acceptable prices.. it's the COILS!! where they absolutely kill people.

Yeah there is a difference in a b&m keeping the doors open and trying to make it rich. Then there are some who just get stuck these start out with their prices to high and get stuck with stuff then have to increase prices on everything else trying to recoup the losses.

I have tried one a friend of mine has a Kbox but it's an older one. That's the only one I've used though so I don't have anything to compare it too. Maybe a cheap one would be the way to go though my main goal being quitting cigs.
Oh, well if it was ok then you should be fine. If I didn't start with an EVOD a kit would have been way to strong for me and I would have wasted $100 on a kit, charger and batteries I would have been pretty upset. Mostly just recommend them to people that never tried it. I have a EVIC VTC mini for sub ohm DTL, still love my evods though. Most people haven't had an evod in ages, they make SOCC coils now that are much better then the silica junk the older ones had. Link I gave were for the old coils but if you type evod socc in google you can find them cheap, just not on FT. Tons of $20+ beginner devices people suggest these days are essentially the same thing (1.5-1.8 Ohm) fixed 3.8v.

I love my alien I run an Arctic V12 at 120w with the 12 core coil. I vape alot probably close to 30mils a day between the 3 mods I switch between but can easily go all day on the alien.

Just for the box mods I would vote for the evic. However, the tanks are a different story. I'm not sure which tank you would be getting on the evic (not a fan of the cubis) but I'm also not a fan of the toptank...so obviously I'm just voting on the mods.
Well he ordered an alien mod and you can't do much better. As far as tanks if he wants to get into rebuilding and have the option of factory coils the the joytech limitless XL is a great choice. If he just wants to use factory coils then the Arctic V12 is a great option

It is worth considering if you want to vape Mouth to Lung or Direct to Lung as this can greatly affect a suitable choice of set up. A lot of vendors will push you towards sub-ohm DTL devices & I've actually encountered some that look down on those of us at 1Ω & above. Not wishing to sound cynical, but they make a bigger profit on liquid than hardware & sub-ohm DTL devices tend to use a lot more juice than higher ohm MTL set ups. If you're coming off cigarettes, you may prefer a MTL device with higher nic content liquid. Jumping in the deep end with something too powerful or the wrong kind of hit could put you off. After vaping for nearly 8 years I finally got around to my first sub-ohm recently (largely because it came in the tank I wanted) I got on well with it, so I swapped the 1.5Ω that also came with it with my other half for the other 0.4Ω coil that came with hers. I've now got several set ups (after years of hovering around 1.8 - 2Ω) using 0.4Ω to 2.8Ω that I use depending on my mood & what type of vape I feel like.

If you can, try before you buy, it could save you lots of heartache (not to mention money) in the long run. Some get on fine with their first device, others hate it, then think that's all there is (after all vaping is vaping isn't it) & give up on it. Stick with it & don't be afraid to ask questions. Without ECF, I'm sure we'd both still be smoking, down to the wrong choices we could've & probably would've made at the start.

I just ordered the alien. Can't wait to stop smoking.
Start cutting back on cigarettes now- I gave myself 2 weeks of cutting back and vaping, had set a complete quit date threw out my cigarettes and with vaping, good eliquid and Will Power I have not had a single cigarette in over 2 years!
Stay strong after a few weeks it got easier for me! I sure didn't have an Alien kit, but was able to quit cigarettes because I was determined to quit!

I didn't even intend quitting, just cutting down, as working from home meant I could chainsmoke pretty much all day. So I did. Up to 40-50 a day. Didn't touch a tobacco cigarette after day one, other out of curiosity a few weeks later, which lasted precisely 2 puffs before being stubbed out.

yihi sxmini m class vs Joyetech ? Both seem to do the same for my type of vaping.

You got a good set-up with the Alien kit. As mentioned, research batteries and get a couple married pairs of recommended batteries from the right vendors. Strongly consider an external charger as well.

Equally important is the right juice, one (better yet 2 or more) you really like. If you don't like or tire of a juice, you won't enjoy your gear nearly as much. Starting out, hit your B&M to at least get you started. You can always expand your search for other great flavors later. And keep an open mind to different flavors. I now love and vape some flavors I never would have even tried (based on names/ingredients) when I started.

Some like one flavor and vape it all day, every day and are completely happy. Some of us like to change flavors several times a day. If you lean toward the latter, a second tank (or third, fourth, fifth, etc. :D) makes changing flavors a snap.

Good luck! You've got a good start! :vapor:
