If you're looking for a set it and forget it rig, and you're a dripper, I'd suggest a vvg from reosmods.com, it's all I use out of the apartment. The tank's inside the mod, just slap on any ol' atty or carto, put some batteries in it and you're good to go all day. Squeeze, fire, puff. Here's my vvg in the hands of a bench statue when I was walking in the park with my girl. And woody, whatever ya settle on, we're all glad to have you back. I think you'll do it this time.

RedHat,

I've heard a ton of great things about the Reo's, but after my experience with the (highly touted) VMod XL, I am really hesitant to try another internal reservoir mod - especially one that would cost quite a bit more. I think that is one I'd have to try in person, or at a B&M vape store before buying.

I appreciate all the brainstorming here though :D

So I ordered the SID, atty's, iclear 30, and some more juice from BWB, and got everything in the mail between yesterday and today, with some more e-juice to be delivered tomorrow.

I unpacked the SID, tossed in a freshly charged UltraFire 18650, and was greeted with "Smok" on the display. Looks good. I press the fire button three times to enter the menu, can see all the options as expected - resistance at 1.4 ohms on a LR 1.5 ohm atty, battery shows 4.1v on a 3.7v 18650.... ok. Everything looks good so far. Let's go ahead and start vaping!

Hit the fire button, and anticlimactically... nothing. It flashes the resistance on the display very briefly, and then it goes blank. No vapor from the two atty's and the clearo I tried on it. Pressing the fire button again doesn't do anything, it doesn't display the resistance nor can I enter the menu again. I have to pull the battery and reset the entire unit just to be able to access the menu again. I had tried two different UltraFire batteries, two atty's, and a clearo, and get the exact same results with every combination of the above.

I'm thinking I got a dud.

Sounds like the battery isn't working with that current. I wouldn't use Ultrafire battery but use IMR batteries with a VV/VW Mod. Turn the voltage down lower and try it and it will probably work.

I had tried both batteries at 3.0v, and had the same result. I was thinking it could be the Ultrafires, but it seems strange the SID itself wouldn't display an error or at least allow me to access the menu again. Although if it is a battery issue, who knows how things might act up.

I tried an ultrafire on my TMax and it worked ok so it might very well be the SID. Good luck I hope you get it going.

I've got the SID and I've heard they don't like ultrafires. I'd recommend IMRs, RTD vapor has a good selection at decent prices.

Three letters everyone should know and love, R-E-O. You may have had a bad experience with the vmod, but don't clump all bottom feeders in the same boat. A REO Grand comes with a giant community of people willing to help you out at the drop of a hat. You would also be dealing with the best customer service on the market (imo). Stop on by Reos Mods and say Hi. Check out what's new in the world of REOs.

Alternatively, these Panasonics, which claim to be li-ion still, but without protection? There are so many new changes with batteries, I feel like a noob all over again :p

Panasonic NCR18650B 18650 3.7V 3400mAh Rechargeable Li-ion Batteries
$15.01 Panasonic NCR18650B 18650 3.7V 3400mAh Rechargeable Li-ion Batteries (2-Pack) 2-pack - button top / 55mohm internal resistance at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Dont know if they are protected, likely not. I've been using mine in all my mods. Vamo, 18650 eGoT, Parks Paws etc. No issues at all...

Also try tobacco juices for the excellent TH and experience as close to smoking as you will get. I've had problems totally moving off analogs as well and the tobacco juices are really helping. These threads will provide you with more info on the types of tobacco juices available and what each type can offer:

These are just a few sample threads that discuss tobacco juices.

Good luck!

Just pulled the trigger on two Panny batteries..... and when you give a mouse a cookie... he buys an Intellicharger i2 :p I figured if I was going to buy new batteries, I wanted to get some really nice ones. If I got really nice batteries, I would feel bad charging them up on my cheap, $2 Chinese charger which is (literally) held together with electrical tape.

It was a bit more up front than I was hoping to pay for this setup, but I want to get this thing rolling while my motivation is high to get rid of analogs. I bought these at a US store, so I could hopefully get faster delivery times and be able to start the wonderful vaping ASAP. I've got everything I need here - a new mod, atty's, juice.... it's all teasing me until I can actually make this thing work.

C'est la vie.

This entire setup, batteries and all, is still $65 less than what I would have spent on smokes in a month. I'm hoping I make very good use of this investment :vapor:

So I resolved the "protected battery" issue

Just remove the plastic wrap and the pcb, and now one of my UltraFire's is technically no longer protected. The SID is working great now!

This is definitely not a long-term solution, but it did let me find out that the issue was in the batteries and not the mod itself. I am so relived I can start vaping now! This mod mod will at least allow me to start vaping and order the unprotected Panny batteries and a quality charger from FastTech without having to wait another week without vaping.
