dannyv's post should be a good place to start:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-reading-people-new-dyi-please-have-look.html

For the basics, you will need:

Nicotine solution (optional)
PG and/or VG
Concentrated flavorings (optional)
0.01g-resolution digital scale (optional, but highly recommended; <$10 on eBay)
Plastic pipettes or dropper bottles (if you use the scale to measure by weight)
Graduated syringe(s) with wide-bore blunt-tip needles (for measuring by volume if you choose to skip the scale)
Empty bottle(s)
Rubber gloves and safety goggles
A clean, well-ventilated workspace
A few minutes to work without interruption
Decent math skills and/or an online juice calculator program

As for where to get, nudenicotine.com offers a "free" (plus $2 shipping) nicotine sample in your choice of nic strength and PG, VG, or a mix of both. If you get it in 100mg/ml it should be enough to make quite a lot of juice, depending on what nic level you're vaping at. Could be a good way to "get your feet wet" and see if DIY is right for you, without spending too much on supplies. They also have most of the other stuff you'll need, although you might find better prices if you shop around. They're the only vendor I've used thus far, but some others I've heard mentioned are:

wizardlabs.us
myfreedomsmokes.com
onestopdiyshop.com
bullcityvapor.com
ecigexpress.com

Ck out Bull City Vapors. They have a very nice starter kit, great selection of top flavorings, good prices on nic. I wish that had been available when I first started. Nude Nicotine also has a complete kit that includes flavors and nic in the price.

The kits also tend to have lots of stuff you don't need though, too, and generally come with overpriced, low-strength nicotine solution. I looked at all the kits before I bought, and in the end, I just ended up picking my supplies individually. Got everything I think I really "need," and for less than the kit. BCV's kit might be the best deal, but even that one's a little "padded" -- do you really need new dropper bottles, or do you have some lying around leftover from pre-made juices you've bought in the past? You could always mix straight in the bottle, so you don't need the beaker. Face masks? If you're not sick, and you're not making juice with the intent to sell it to others, you can probably do without those, too. Your best bet is probably to decide what equipment you will need, and see if there's a kit that has all those same things for less. You might find you're better off just buying everything individually.

For mixing, I'm pretty simple.

I just use syringes (1, 3, and 10ml, I grabbed 3 of each), Luer lock blunt needles (14ga for VG, something higher ga for everything else, again 3 of each), and bottles (I started with 5 30ml glass dropper top bottles, more bottles is always better).

If you get syringes, use clear tape or clear nail polish to protect the markings; they'll rub off very quickly.

Got it all from Wizard Labs, including PG, VG, nic, and flavors.

So many wonderful threads on ecf to help the DIY'er. I also found some good information here.

As far as supplies.

Graduated Cylinder Bomex Glass - 100ml

I buy my syringes from my pharmacy for very little.

As far as flavorings, I prefer Vaping Zone's Gourmet and Super Concentrated flavorings. Cost a bit more but you use so much less in a recipe that I feel as though it is more economical. I have also been very please with the flavors and quick shipments. They have sales quite often for 20% off.

Most get into DIY to save money. Most stay in DIY because of the flavors. It is fun and quite easy to do.

Sorry, I don't mean to throw so much at you but this is just what I use. Have fun and good luck to you on your mixing adventure. :)

My favorite places for flavors and supplies are:
Bull City Vapor - Best Prices on DIY e-liquid Supplies
http://www.eliquidmart.com
New place for 3 and 5 ml tests of FA:
Mama J's Juice

I've tried two out three of these:

Mama J's Juice and Bull City Vapor - Best Prices on DIY e-liquid Supplies

They both have outstanding customer service, incredibly fast shipping and great prices. And MamaJ's has a specialty flavors area--premixed flavor mixes to make your DIY a little easier. You still have to mix it up with PG, VG and Nic, but your mix comes from one bottle. The flavor artist there is really something special, so you're pretty much guaranteed awesome juice every time. There's a new flavor called "Gameover Custard" which surpasses any vanilla custard flavor I've ever tried.
