So I've been vaping for almost 3 months ish and started with a Kanger EVOD starter kit that served me very well, and recently I got a 1300mAh Vision Spinner and a Protank 2 and a mini PT2, and I still want better.. performance? I don't know if that's the right word but I feel like there's a better vape out there and so I've been looking into some upgrades and I'm on a very tiny budget, and I was looking into getting a vv/vw "mod" like the Vamo v2/v3 or the smok SID, and I'm leaning more towards the SID

I went to my local vape shop today and he showed me the SID and all the features and such and they sell the kit that comes with the SID, 2 2000mAh batteries and a charger for ~$84 plus tax, and I couldn't quite pull the trigger on it yet, I really wanted to walk out with it but, I wasn't sure if it was something that would improve my vaping experience. the guy showing it to me said it would be a good upgrade and a good beginner mod, but I guess I just wanted some feedback from you guys on your thoughts. Will I notice a better quality vape? More vapor production? Any noticeable improvement overall? And I also would like a mod as I'd like to try and start rebuilding my own PT/EVOD heads and want to check what ohm's they at and hopefully get good at doing that. But any input/suggestions are very much appreciated

TL;DR Max budget is $90 for new kit, been looking at SID or VAMO v2/v3, suggestions? input? Buy it local or online?

hahaha I see what you're sayin, I just don't know if I should try rebuilding first, since I have no way of testing the ohm's on rebuilt heads, and I don't really wanna throw em on one of my batteries and have it short out on accident or something awful like that. But I know what you mean idk I'd feel safer having a way to read the ohms on my heads with a mod rather than spending money on a voltmeter just for RBA's when I could put the money towards the mod, and I don't know how successful I will be at rebuilding heads

Try rebuilding your Protank heads first before you spend more money on other stuff. 30gauge Kanthal and cotton wick. I have 3 Vamo V3s and a SID. Those mods are GREAT for starters!!…but you can't push more fuel into a golf-cart and expect it to run like a Corvette…know what I mean?:2cool:

I have the Vamo V2 in SS from Fasttech. I've been through more than my share of mods and the Vamo has held up really good for me...even better than the Zmax and Evic. I broke both of those. And the Vamo is cheap on the Fasttech site. It's only like 33 dollars for the mod only (without batteries) with free shipping.

I can't comment on the SID since I've never used one. I suggest going with a Vamo based on my experience. But get the mod only... if you buy it from Fasttech.com And make sure it is SS and not chrome plated, if you want quality.

I'm actually looking at buying the Vamo V5 from Fasttech....pretty much the same price for the mod only.

Fasttech sells Vamo kits, with batteries and chargers. But they are in China and I've read about ppl having problems with shipping batteries overseas. You can get the batteries and charger here in the U.S.

It will be cheaper than 90 dollars to get a 33 dollar mod and buy the batteries and a charger separately.

Maybe the extra money can go toward a new atty/tank. I can't really comment on what atty/tank you should buy since I use an RBA that costs over a $100.

Tjmmotox- I'm in the same spot you are in- you started the thread I've had in my head for a week... Using spinner and rotate between the T3S and Vision ARO pyrex (which I love). Currently I baby my heads-rotate often and replace my wicks with cotton yarn. Great results with that too- better vape and flavor! However I'm eager to learn to rebuild coils and possibly learn to drip while not at work :) (just the idea tickles me-lol) I am guilty of loving shiney new stuff but most of all I want a little more 'umph' in my vape. I also have been told to first learn to rebuild coils for the stuff I currently have before spending more $... I just keep telling myself that if I get the Vamo 3 (prefer the look of that over the vamo 5) I am killing two birds with one stone as it has the ability to provide more power AND it reads resistance. Oh and..... I love my spinner and it will last longer if I am not using it ALL the time -lol. Yep another justification to buy a new shiney toy for myself. Don't get me wrong today is day 80- analog free. I use vaping for its purpose and have decided it will replace my other hobby for a bit (beading-making necklaces-earrings and bracelets) because I really enjoy tinkering. My husband vapes too-but doesn't want the 'hassle' so I take care of his vaping supplies for him as well :)
Tj-have you held a Vamo? (I'm torn between the SiD and Vamo as well) and- did you think the SiD felt sturdy? To me tge Vamo 'looks' more heafty... but I've never had my hands on either. Local shops don't have em. .... what to do!!! Hope you keep us posted on your decision!!!

E-Nuff said!

Recently got 2 of these bad-boys, for the price you really cannot go wrong!
Then add the SID, SVD, Reos, Provari, etc. to your Christmas list!

I like the way Unclepsyko thinks...... Dear Santa, I have been very good this year. Please see my enclosed vape list.........

I'm in a very similar situation as you. I started vaping about 7 months ago. I started with (2) ego-twist batteries, and Ive been ready to upgrade for about 1-2 months now, and I think Im finally about to place an order.

To save you some time, here is a price list I compiled with the best/most common APVs around. The prices are the cheapest I could find out of the 7 or 8 vape shops I use online.

$32 Vamo v5 Stainless Steel
$36 Innokin iTaste VV
$37 Innokin SVD
$37 Smoktech SID
$40 Innokin iTaste MVP 2.0
$42 Smoktech Zmax v3
$71 Innokin iTaste VTR
$104 Joyetech eVic
$140 Lavatube 2.5
$160 Provari

After reading much on the forums here, I narrowed down my upgrade options to either A) the Vamo v5, or B) the Innokin iTaste MVP 2.0 (which is a steal right now for $40)

All of those on the list are tried and testing, and seem to be well built models.
Hope this helps.

For just getting into rebuilding, I recommend you buy a multimeter from Harbor Freight...I got mine for LITERALLY $5. They aren't the MOST accurate device out there, but for 5 bux they are a great start so you can start rebuilding your coils, and testing the ohms.

Would you be willing to tell us which shops you priced the top 7 (under $100) units at? Pretty please-with cherries on top???

Don't worry about mechs or rebuilding coils yet... If your looking to upgrade from your spinner I would recommend a Vamo (any version) or an iTaste MVP V2. They both have variable voltage and wattage (which is the logical progression from your vv spinner). While mechs and rebuildables can be fun you have all time in the world for that and alot of people find themselves entirely satisfied with an APV. The Vamo is great because you can put an 18350 (smaller size) or an 18650 (longer battery life). The iTaste is great because it's got a small form factor and very good battery life. Depending if you prefer tube or box mods those are both mods that I can recommend you with confidence. Either one can be had for less than $40 if you hunt for a good deal. As for batteries and chargers, you can find something decent without breaking the bank but don't buy the cheapest stuff you can find. Efest, Panasonic, Sanyo, Sony, AW are all safe brands. For a charger I use an Xtar WP2 which can be found for $20 and it's probably the safest charger you can buy in it's price range. (IT's been thorougly tested by the guys in the flashlight forums and their expertise in batteries/chargers goes far beyond that of most vapers). If you have any questions feel free to message me any time. I can point you in the right direction :D

Thanks for all the input guys, I'm thinking about just ordering something online, but I do like the shop I go to and want to support them. But monday I'm gonna go back to the shop to look at the Vamo and SID again and hold them and see how they feel, I didn't do that last time, but I wanna get some supplies to rebuild my coils and I'm gonna wait til friday to see if I wanna buy either of those mods, I'll report back on how the Vamo and SID "feel"

I went back today and got some kanthal and wick and a cheap multimeter from harbor freight and it doesn't read 0 ohms when touching the 2 leads, it jumps anywhere from 1-180 so I don't know how accurate it is.. and I need to go get a sewing needle/pin and some tape. But I did look at the Vamo and SID and the Vamo felt pretty well built, it actually felt heavy (as far as devices go) and the SID felt lightweight, not like bad quality but just lighter than the Vamo but they both felt like solid quality devices, and the fact that the Vamo can use the shorter battery might be kinda nice if I wanted to carry it around, still not sure on which yet but I get paid friday!

fast tech
litecigusa
discountvapers

those were the main sites I used for pricing ;)

fast tech has the vamo for cheapest hands down.

Oh, and 101vape.com has the MVP2.0 for $40

I dont know which MM you got, but make sure you are using the correct setting. typically, it would be the lowest ohm(resistance) setting to do a lead test. You wont get to zero typically, but something like .1 or .3 or somewhere in there would probbly be about average. 1 or 180 to me indicates either you are using the wrong scale or something is wrong with your MM.

I'm guessing the MM is not good.. I have it on the correct settings for resistance and put the range at 200 (lowest), and currently the most consistent reading is around ~2 it holds it there and then jumps around more, but I think I rebuilt my first coil right (I hope it doesn't short my battery out). I might go back to harbor freight and see what they think

Edit: failed coil rebuild, battery wont fire with it screwed on
