Looking to upgrade to subohm, any good alternative to the Pico?

Greetings folks!

It's that's fun time again.. You know the one. Where you go, 'I need new kit. Not want, -need-.' .. Wether or not it's completely true. :)

After setting up someone with their first-time kit being the eleaf istick pico 75w, and some LG HG2's to power it.. well, they're planning to return the favor of my research and guidance with buying me whatever kit I want at $70 and down. As it is, I'm trying to figure out if there really is anything that'll work better in that price range than the Pico, considering I have to get tank -and- mod, since all my old stuff isn't subohm. (See also, running Smok SID, Vamo v3, and Vamo 5 over here with an Aerotank Mega as the main piece of choice.)
A friend however also gave me his original subvod set (and of course, with the glass broken on the toptank nano), and a kangertech subtank plus, and while nice.. it's too big for my liking, and the coil's wicking is too high. But it's been a nice way for me to go, 'Okay, subohm. _NOW_ I know what I'm missing! Now I really need something adjustable and able to use 18650's...'

So far, the only reason I might want to pass on the pico is tank-size restrictions, really. I'm wondering if anyone can suggest at least a mod as solid, reliable, and 'good for bloody everything' as the Pico is, that isn't going to give me problems with tank sizes. I'm still mulling over checking out RDA's, as well as maybe eventually the TFV8. Options, we like 'em!
I'm quite willing to settle for the pico itself if need be, that said.

As for usage.. I'll be primarily working with high VG liquids (if only because that's what my friends donate to my habit! ^_^), probably in the 15-30 watt range (due to prefering cooler vapes), and pretty sure I'd be classed in the mouth-to-lung, cloud-loving type. As I've never smoked, I don't really have anything to compare the habits to, but definitely like a smooth, airy draw.

In anycase, thanks for the time, and thanks for the amazing forum folks!

Hello ShirraWhitefur,

i'd go with a Smok Mod of some kind. They've really been hitting it out of the park lately (in that price
bracket). I've got the Smok Alien... really small, practical and powerful. I'd watch a couple of DJLSBvapes
videos for further clarification.
Tanks... I really love my Ijoy Combo... great vape and so versatile. Oh yeah... and clouds galore.

The Pico is good up to 75W, and you can certainly obtain a good DL hit from that with the right tank. Subohm refers to the tank (well, really the coil) not the mod. The only limitation with the Pico is no tanks over 23 mm. If you want a whole new setup maybe the Alien kit with the baby beast tank. That kicks up a very nice cloud. Tough part is finding it in stock.

Me; i LOVE that istick Pico

My Second choice would be the eVic VTC Mini.

If you want to go higher voltage go tge eVic VTC Dual.

Fantastic board does everything and NO size limits.

I vouch for the Smok Alien Mod as well. I run the baby beast in the morning for higher nic level and switch to the Beast for all day vaping for the larger tank size. The Alien has a memory option that allows you to program different tanks, I just have not learned how to use that option yet

While Subohm is mostly the coil, you still have to make sure you pick a mod that can handle it to the low levels you want, in this case, 0.1 is a required. I've seen a few attractive looking options that I had to discard due to being 0.2 or 0.5 at lowest.
Also, thankfully, I don't ever.. and I do mean -ever- expect to need more than 60 watts. Likely never more than 45, but still. It's good to have options, as said before. ^_^
The Smok Alien has stayed on my list, especially because a friend has the h-priv and it's lovely tfv-4 mini tank, though every time it comes up, I hear people who've had it more than a few weeks complaining about it's fire button, which gave me serious pause.
The eVic VTC Dual also ended up on my list, though it and the Alien both are pushing my upper pricing. I just have to wonder about the durability of both of them.

As noted before though, really, the only thing that makes me not want the pico is the tank size limitation. Which is a big limitation to me, because of all the things I want to dabble with later. ;)

My 2 cents is to go with the Lavabox M. It is small, lightweight and can handle 25mm tanks with just a little tiny bit of overhang. It is a single 18650 mod that can put out an honest and realistic 75 watts which is more than enough power for my .20 ohm coils. I have to have my H-Priv at 75 watts to equal the vape I am getting from the Lava Box at 65 watts. I love my Lava Box and I carry it with me all of the time. I decided against the Pico for the same reason you don't like it, it can't handle bigger tanks.

The size limitation on the pico is the only reaon I never picked it up. I have to vouch heavily for the alien, it has become my daily mod, great reliability and it can fit up to 25mm atomizers, the baby beast tank that comes with the kit is also a very good tank. I also heavily used the eleaf istick 100tc, which is a fantastic mod, dual 18650, side fire, with a lock, and 24mm attys fit on it well, it is also very inexpensive and very reliable. My wife prefers her H-Priv, but I find that the battery door on it is a bit awkward to deal with, and the side fire button is a bit too clicky for me. There are also some very excellent DNA devices that are not that expensive, such as the Lavabox 75, and the HCigar VT75 nano. Take a look around, look at some reviews, DSLsb Vapes is very detailed, Vaping Biker is a hilarious english bloke, Mike Vapes is very practical, and the Vapor Trail is very approchable. Good luck!

Best Sub Ohm Tank I have found is the Kangertech Pangu with the SS316L .5Ω coils. With a MOD I like massive multiple cell MOD's but that is just because I like more power! I have an iStick TC40W that does TC mode perfectly fine!

While the Lavabox looks like a wonderful setup.. I've got $70 or less to get -mod and tank-. It's a weee bit out of that range, heh.
While I was out hunting (unsuccessfully) for replacement glass for a toptank nano, I did get to check out the Alien, and.. that's got a seriously nice hand-fit to it. Smaller than I thought, but juust big enough. I think now I need to find a shop with the evic VTC Dual.. Though I'll keep the eleaf iStick TC100 on my list of further down possibilities too. The alien and the vtc dual however tempt with the siren call of 'bigger screen, more info at once, that I'm likely to -totally- not need once I get it set up right for my stuff.' :)

Although other people have beaten me to it, I can vouge for the Alien 220W. The Baby Beast might be a little too small for you, depending on how much you find yourself vaping... However, after rockin' the Cuboid for almost a year before upgrading to the Alien, I can suggest the Alien with great confidence to you. It's definitely a complete kit that can put out the power. If you're looking for a larger tank capacity and enjoy the TFV8 Baby Beast, I would definitely suggest the TFV8 Cloud Beast. The high wattage output of the Alien+Cloud Beast is definitely enjoyable if that's what you're aiming for, not to mention the compact size of the Alien. Good luck on your search! :)

You can get the Smok Alien kit with the Big Baby Beast tank in that price range. I think the Big Baby Beast offers some pretty incredible flavor for the ridiculous amount of vapor production and there are a ton of coil choices.

The Innokin Cool Fire IV TC100 is also worth a look. It's a nice simple mod and I'm a fan of some of Innokin's coils, especially the BVC Clapton 0.5s.
