I drove to Memphis the other night and while driving noticed that the button became very difficult to push, and soon I could not even feel the button. I pulled off on a ramp and found that the button had slid down and almost out of sight. The next morning I tried to fish it out but had no luck, so I had to drive home with only one battery.
When I got home I was able to get hold of the button and pull it back but every time it was pushed it again would slide off and stick there. I got some tweezers and with some effort pulled it completely out. I found it was only a piece of rubber and the problem was still inside. I saw that the tactile button was off center from the hole so I got a safety pin and pryed it back into place. It had slid somehow straight up the length of the battery till it was barely visible. It was not easy to move but just needed steady force to slide back to the center. Replacing the rubber button was more difficult but managed with the help of a paper clip to force the edges inside. It now works again but I can see this being a problem in long term use and perhaps a better switch in the future design.
