I learned a long time ago that if I have a lot to say on any board, facebook, etc., I write my post in Word, then copy & past into the message box....I have lost too many messages the same way as you did. Sorry that happened to you!!
When you login, to the lower left is a box "Remember Me". Tick/ Check it off and you won't be auto logged off.

How? Mine goes to 'auto-saved' every few secs. Didn't urs?
