I've been using this pod system for 3 weeks now and can say it has totally changed my opinion on pods. I like nice devices. I appreciate craftsmanship and quality, which the Orion has. This is a very well engineered device made with quality materials and really checks all the right boxes in that regard for me. Add the fact that I can easily fill it and use my own juices (I only vape what I make and have done that for 4 years now) and it starts becoming a really interesting device to me.

But the real decider for me is the vape quality. I know everyone is different in what they expect from a vaping device, but I find the restricted DTL perfect for my needs. The DNA Go with Replay regulates well and the Replay keeps me from burning pods if I don't pay attention to juice levels. That's very good for me since without Replay I would actually have to pay attention... not my forte I guess.

The only negative is the muted flavor. It is muted compared to any tank or other device I have (this includes the Nautilus AIO which I tried and has better flavor, but has other issues). It's not a deal breaker since I can reformulate my favorite juices, and have, but it needs to be said I guess. It's not huge, but it is noticeable to me. And I don't agree with what others have said about the pods needing 3 tanks to "break in". The Pods I've gotten have all been the same in that it takes about 1ml of the first fill to get the best flavor, and the flavor remains the same until I get that first off/burned taste and I know the pod is done. Depending on the juice used that can be anywhere from 3 fills to 10 fills, but once I get a hint of that off taste it goes in the bin.

One final thing. I tested my worst tank cracker juice just to see if the pod could take it (apple with cinnamon) and absolutely no problem after 4 fills so even the pods are made well.

All in all, a really good pod system.

This little guy does what I need it for. Quick trips, in between meetings, travel and other times I don't want to carry a larger device.
The one thing I hate about it is every pod drip tip falls off. Sometimes in my pocket, sometimes just lost on the floor. I suppose it is time to super glue them all. I have lost a few.
I would love a little rebuildable tank for it but not holding my breath.

Well mine had stopped working after about 7 pod refills, same thing as has been reported, vaping done then boom, nothing, no lights when plugged in, nothing. That was about 4 weeks ago (I had it about a week)Didn’t have time to go back till the shop till today it was well past the return date for in store warranty. (30days) I rallied to the guy there I always talk to when I go in. He told me bring it in he had 25 of them in the back of the store with the same problem waiting to be shipped back. Gave me a brand new one on the spot. I had the only black one they had since they got them so unfortunately I had to get a gold one for the replacement but I’m glad as hell I even was able to return it for a replacement.

I’ve been using 48mg nic salt in mine, it’s the only juice I buy, I make all my own juices other than salt juice only because I haven’t bought any nic salt for mixing yet, what vg/pg ratio do you use in yours? I also use a smok novo pod system if your looking for another one, they are tiny as hell and have a nice hit to them (tip trippers made a nice review of them) in fact I just bought a 2nd one today just because I liked it so much, another bonus they are only 35 bucks even in the brick and mortar stores and they come with 2 pods (empty And refillable of course or I wouldn’t have bought it lol)

That's strange. I've used probably 6 pods so far, and carry my two Orions in a jacket pocket so they bounce and knock against each other whenever I'm out, and I've never lost a drip tip.

I'm not thrilled with salts. So, in my Orions I use freebase, either 50/50 or max 30pg/70vg. Both work well.

Hello,
may i ask if someone could enlighten me about the Pods and their coils.
So far i know the wire but would like to understand a bit more in detail.

Diameter of the coils (0.25 / 0.5)
Wire gauge/mm (0.25/0.5)

if there was used different wire to reach the 0.5 oder less wraps to reach the 0.25.
Read something about parallel setups. Would the 0.5 then be a single wire?

Should help me to set my wattage/boost/warmth option a bit better as i use custard flavors and just messed up 2 pods....
thank you!

All but my first pod lost the drip tip. I was smart enough to keep the tip when the pod is done. Maybe a bad batch. I would be happier with a normal DT connection.

The first thing I did when I got a pod system is order a 150ml bottle of 100mg/ml nic salt from Nicotine River. Just wanted to see how it compares the FB nic. There's absolutely no difference in mixing with nic salt with the exception that you can not only mix to your desired nic level but you can also tailor your throat hit to your preference. So you have a greater degree of juice customization to work with. I find this desirable.

I mix most of my juices for either tanks or pods at 60/40 VG/PG. It flows well through the coils without giving the dryness and TH of higher PG juices. It's surprising how much moisture VG adds to juices... and that's a clear preference for me.

I might need to give the Novo a closer look. I remember Smok from years ago and the lack of quality and innovation so haven't really paid much attention to them from bad experiences. It sounds like they have stepped up their game though so further research is in order. Thanks for the heads up.

Since nic salts vape identical to FB, although with better customization potential, I can only guess you are vaping commercial juices. The problem with commercial juices is the the nic levels... too damn high for my preference. I use 6mg/ml in my juices, even for pods since pods deliver much higher volume of vaper than they used to. But yeah, 30 to 50mg/ml is just too high for me. But this isn't a nic salt issue, just a juice manufacturer issue really. I wish they would provide lower nic choices.

This isn't a problem if you DIY mix, but a big problem if you buy commercial juice.

Don't know about the diameter/wire gauge but the coils are SS316L and the Ω are 0.25 and 0.50 and as far as I know single wire

Some do. For example, Mr Salt-E sells bottles of 5mg/ml intended for sub ohm vaping. I'm currently vaping my own homemade stuff that's 5mg/ml nic salt.

Yeah, there are very rare exceptions, but even Mr Salt-e only has a couple flavors that you can get at 5mg and those seem to be tobacco juices... not the tasty ones ;) , they're 24 and 45mg.

I understand the reason though. Since NS is a relatively new product for vaping I don't think the FDA is going to let all ejuice makers use existing FB nic juice PMTAs or certifications and manufacturers are most likely going to have to submit new PMTAs for every juice and every nic level for NS also. They also need to consider high TH and Low TH for each nic level for each juice making the PMTAs double for those juices. So probably hesitant to make the jump. Can't say I blame them. I don't have any information this is actually true, but I think it's a pretty reasonable assumption given the current attitude towards vaping at the FDA.

The above is why it great to make your own juice, these issues don't exist. Granted NS is a little more expensive than FB at the moment, but that's just a volume demand issue. In reality it is less than $0.10 difference in a 60ml mix for me, so not an issue.

Thought it was time to have a good look inside. This is a 0.25 pod, the wick is ok, but the coil is gunking up. Its a parallel build and gunks up between the two strands.

Main thing that stands out, is how simple it would be to make a 'proper' mtl pod with a few minor changes. Rebuilding would be a super easy if the pod came apart cleanly.

@dansus
could you give me more details about the coil itself? diameter and wire gauge/mm?
thank you.
