Low resistance atty? What is it, how does it work, do I need one?

Trying to get educated here. A low resistance atty? What exactly does it do? I'm on KR808D-1 with adapter when I use a 510 atty, otherwise it's KR808D-1.
Does a low resistance atty keep the atty from getting too hot or what? Not sure I understand what a low resistance atty does?
Do they make low resistance carto's? Are "cool carts" by V4L considered low resistance because they stay cooler than regular carto's?
I have noticed that when I'm on my Joye510, the atty turns rather warm. Would a low resistance atty keep it cooler and would it be better on the battery life of a 510?

Much thanks

Low resistance atty's have a lower electrical resistance (in ohms) than a regular atty. To give you some numbers, a typical low resistance atomizer has a resistance of around 1.5 ohms. A Joye 510 atty is around 2.4 ohms. A KR8 carto tends to be around 3 ohms. There is some variation due to manufacturing tolerances and across different batches etc.

What this means is that an LR atomizer draws more current from the battery, and therefore gets hotter than a standard resistance atty. batteries last less time. They produce hotter vapour and more of it. In marketing speak (not strictly accurate) "low resistance atomizers simulate a high voltage device".

It's worth noting that LR atty's should only be used with batteries over 450 mah (standard recommendation) although personally I would suggest for safest use and best performance, use them with high drain batteries on a mod. This is because they are harder on the batteries due to the higher current draw. Yes you can get LR cartomizers, and the same precautions apply. The V4L cool carts are likely to have a higher resistance than normal, not lower, although I can't confirm that.

I also don't know the resistance of V4L's Premium "CoolCart" cartomizers. I always assumed that they were lower resistance than the older Kr8 cartos, since their vapor production was so much greater (rivaling the standard resistance 510 atomizer).

They certainly are not 1.5 ohms or they would burn out the 280 mAh Kr8 battery. And, as Papa cautions, do not use LR 510 (or LR 306) atomizers on your Kr8 batteries.

This article talks about LR and HV atomizers, what they do, how they do it, and how they should be used.
