I've been vaping off and on for a few months. I'm a bit frustrated because, in my case, I find vaping often more expensive than smoking "analogs" (I roll my own) and the prospect of going through a lot of e-juice daunting. I'm not interested in lots of "throat hit" or visible vapor. I've tried several cig-a-Likes and I'm satisfied with the performance (Blu was probably the best in terms of the total package), but I have issues with the cartridge costs (if pre-filled) or battery life. I'd really like something that performs about the same but has a longer battery life. I've tried an ordinary eGo and sometimes I find it just produces too much vapor for my needs, or the flavor comes across as too strong (and occasionally the nic hit is too much too). I'm wondering if variable voltage/wattage would be a good idea, given that a lot of the variable power devices are oriented more towards "more" and not "less".

I am no expert, but i am awake at this hour, so I will take a shot, at answering. :)
If you tried a "regular" ego, and had "enough" wattage, then variable voltage is not the answer. The lowest voltage is around 3.3, which is what the blue, and a ego use, I believe. Some of the newer egos are 3.7, which is not much more, but noticeable.

To me, it sounds like you should try a higher VG content in your juices, and perhaps lower nic. VG is more "smooth",as opposed to PG, (VG also 'mutes' flavor). Higher Nic also increases the "throat hit".

Also "youtube" is your FRIEND! There is a technique to filling your own cartos, but is easily learned by watching videos on it. Just google "how to fill a cartomiser" . Cartomisers are cheap if you fill your own, and each one should last a week at least. The carto itself should last a week, NOT the juice, that you have to refill several times a day probably, I did.

Here is where I get my cartos:
510 BOGE 50MM (XL) STAINLESS STEEL 3.0 ohm CARTOMISER (Box of 5) they also sell cheap 'mini' egos that are 450 mAh, that will last at least twice as long as a cigalike, and not take up much more space.

I can't tell you much about store bought juice, because I have been making my own since my first month vaping. I too, couldn't find a juice I liked, and was spending a bunch of money on unknown stuff, because others said it was AWESOME, only to find out I HATED IT. Juice making is CHEAP, and now if I don't like something, I toss it, but that doesn't happen very often , because I know what I like at this point, and I don't experiment much anymore.

I DO want to tell you, DON'T give up. READ, READ, READ, on this forum, (this is where, I learned everything, including SAFE juice makin'.)

Don't buy everything "suggested", especially if it's complicated, and expensive, egos, and cartos, are FINE, I used nothing but for a year in the beginning.

Hope to see you around the forums, keep asking questions.

(By the by, check out my signature, and double the stats (subtract maybe $2,000 at MOST for vape equipment, and juice ingred.s). That is how much money saved, and cigs NOT smoked by me and husband in the last couple years!!!!! and NO TAR IN OUR LUNGS!! :) )

The eGo I got puts out 3.7 volts. I also have a few 510 cigalikes that do that.

I had thought about using less button-time but I want to take longer drags, like smoking (I tend to take long, slow drags on cigarettes, and fewer of them). I guess I want to have something that still resembles analog smoking.

My S.O. actually has a variable voltage eGo she uses for her cherry e-juice and "other things" (non-tobacco). I was playing around with that, using the 3.2v setting, and found it producing less vapor than my 808 cig-a-likes. But at least that is progress, and I could see a variable voltage eGo (maybe an eGo twist) as a solution. I'd like to know more about low voltages gunking up coils, though.

You don't say what heads you are using. If it's something like an evod, you can get higher-ohm replacement coil heads that will vape cooler.

But somehow I suspect that this isn't the issue. When you say the flavor is "too strong" do you mean "tastes harsh"? or "Too much flavor", or "burns my throat" or "makes me cough"? Depending on which of these, there are different solutions. If it burns your throat, for example, go higher-VG. If it tastes harsh, the head is probably not getting enough juice, which may be your technique, or you need to remove a flavor wick, or something like that.

It would be easier to comment if you also said what type of head you are using, and what, specifically is bothering you.

(By the way, you can take long drags even with short button presses!)

The lowest voltage on a twist, is the about same voltage on "most" regular, ego's, (although some like yours are 3.7 regulated, it should tell in item description on site). That would mean you pay for the ability to use HIGHER voltages, that you won't utilize (twists cost more).

The cartos for most cigalikes are 3 ohm, unless things have changed since my last research, because the 510 batteries are not rated for low resistance attachments. 3 ohm carto with 3.3 volts will give you 3.50 watts more or less, and that is as low as I have ever heard! :) (of course I don't get out much, so......) I vape around 8 watts, in comparison. unled66.jpg

The main reason I switched to twists, was for hotter vapor, and ability to use LR cartos in my tank safely. These are not things you seemed to be looking for.

The way you are inhaling could VERY well be the problem, when I first started I had to learn to "mouth" inhale. Fill my mouth with vapour, and just take a tiny bit deeper. Kind of like a cigar smoker, I was told. It didn't take long, and I became accustomed to vaping, and now inhale just like I did smokes.

Just my two cents, I am bored and thought I would chime in again. Hope you have a wonderful smoke free day, I am outa here! :)

I have an MVP and just started figuring out this ohm volt watts thing. I dug up some old 510 attys and they are around 3 ohm compared to some clearomizers that I have at 1.8. The old 510s at low watts/volts makes less cloud but still warm. If you have 2 vapers in the house you should look into DIY juice and customize your juice to your needs. A lot cheaper as well.

I agree with red. Been vaping 2 months. I love my MVP. VV will allow you to adjust your vapor intake. The key then will be finding a juice/nic level that suits your taste. The iclear30 clearomizer that came with my MVP is excellent and last a long time, making it cost effective. While I have also used mini protanks from kanger, I find replacing the coils gets expensive after awhile. Of course you could end up rebuilding your own to save money. That's the next step for me.

I think my problem is solved... the eGo battery I was using wasn't "up to spec", so I was getting a hot vape. No wonder I wasn't happy with the eGo.

I also think I will stick with the Blu's a while longer and try out some other cig-a-like setups. I found a place I can buy blank cartomizers for the Blu (they are smaller diameter), and I'm not worried about dripping juice anymore since I've learned how to fill cartomizers.
