I presume by battery you mean the whole mod and by tank the coil you have in your tank?
I'd also presume that 80w is the maximum setting for your mod?
If so, yes it will fire and eventually gave you vape but the experience will not be that great.

You'll get better responses if you provide some more details. The name of your battery/mod and the name of your tank and the resistance (0.2, 0.5, etc) or name of the coil in your tank.

If i had a 80w battery and my tank went from 90w to 140w can i still vape on that tank?
Just because coil heads are rated to go that high doesn't mean you have to go that high.

The guality of vape has all sorts of factors other than voltage.

Are you using mouth to lung inhales? If so the cotton will burn.

To use real high voltage tou have to lung inhale and rip it to keep the coils cool.

The flavors in the juice will dictate your wattage.

Most of thr time i vape at 15 watts or so, but this one diy juice i vape at only 8 watts because that is where it tastes best to me.

Shoot for a satisfying vape that keeps you off the stinkies and call it good. Vapd what and at the voltage you like instead of being part of the herd mentality

I've been thinking lately that for safety the recommendation should be vapers stick with mods with built in batteries until they know how to calculate and interpret battery requirements. How about a multiple choice quiz to test the understanding?
I think I would prefer a small battalion of secret ninja assassins to hunt down and kill people who sell inappropriate gear to n00bs. But some people will probably think that excessive. :)

Good morning, Diane. Welcome to ecf! I'm hoping you feel like your question was answered. As you can see, there are lots of folks on ecf - and wherever there are lots of folks, there are lots of opinions! :)

Just in case, here's my two cents. High wattage mods are best for low ohm, direct lung vaping. Higher wattage and lower ohms yields bigger clouds. Lower wattage and higher ohms (usually) equals smaller clouds and more flavor. Most folks who are MTL (mouth to lung) vapers are what we call "flavor chasers." This is not to say that you can't get good flavor at high wattage, but rather that our mouth, not our lungs, is where we taste - so direct lung hits tend not to result in as much flavor.

You can use a coil at wattages below what is recommended. You won't get the most out of that coil, but you can do it. You shouldn't use a coil at wattages higher than is recommended.

Hope this helps!
