Hi all,
I am on day four as a non-smoker.
I began vaping 18mg, and went down to 11mg after a day, as I found it was exactly the same, just less of a hit, which I don't miss.
I'm just wondering, how long did it take everyone to get down to 0mg?
I only ever smoked roll-ups, approx 12 a day, and they were very thin (prison) rollies anyway . So I'm wondering if even 11mg is too much? I only use my e cig as and when I would an analogue, and it's giving me a bit of a croaky throat. I have no 'intention' to quit vaping, it's not really an issue, but I do want to be nicotine-free!

Welcome to ECF Entropy. Congrats on your first days smoke free :)

Everyone moves at a different speed. Some go to 0 nic very quickly, others need different strengths at different times of the day, some of us are holding at low nic, and some are holding at high nic.

Take your time and experiment. If you don't notice a difference at the next lowest level stay there. If you start to notice cravings, then go back to the higher level for a bit. A bit may be a couple of puffs, or it could be a couple of days or weeks (or months). The right amount of nicotine is the level that helps you remain smoke-free without craving or without feeling awful.

Personally, I have always considered vaping an alternative to smoking rather than a cessation technique. So, I have been vaping 24mg since I first started with little thought about weaning myself off of nicotine all together. IMO vaping is a great way to replace the harmful long term effects of smoking analog smokes. But there has been very little research done on using vaping as a method to quit nicotine addiction all together. And the success and failures that people report here are mixed at best.

If vaping were as expensive as cigarette smoking I might consider an attempt to wean myself off of nicotine. But as it stands now, I'm completely content spending $30-60/month rather than $16/day.

The bright side is that the withdrawal from nicotine via vaping is much more tolerable than it was with smoking. For example I don't take my eCig in to work and never get a craving during my shift. But my situation may be different than other vapers. When I smoked I couldn't go two hours before I started jonesing really badly for a smoke.

Pretty much what the quote says. I'd like to get down to 6 Mg. I'm using some 18 and some 12. Even a little 24 some times. If I get down to 0 I'll just make my own and not have to order any of the ingredients on line.

I went from smoking around 5 - 7 cigarettes on workdays and maybe a pack over the weekend to vaping at 6mg. Find it totally satisfying with the right flavors and more enjoyable than smoking due to being able to vape different flavors and feeling so much healthier. I don't intend to quit vaping or go lower than 6mg, I couldn't do it, for me it's either this or analogues and I prefer this as a healthier alternative. I find even 8mg a bit too stimulating to me. It affects everyone different, so just drop down by maybe 1mg at a time or something and see how you do! Good luck!

I have a feeling, you are not alone on the every 2 hours smoking..

I asked this on another spot on line.. one of my friends said.. once you are ready to lower your nic.. try to do it within the 2mg rule.. if it is ok, stay there.. give it a week or so, and then drop another 2mg..

me.. I started at 18mg.. noticed a few fits of coughing, and dropped it straight down to 10.. I am comfy here.. for now, and really dont want to give up my nic.. but on the same hand.. if I can go lower, I will.. there are flavor enhancers too, if you are into diy.. that can cause the same effect as nic (like menthol, koolada etc) that you can play around with, to get that th.. it is all according to what you are wanting to do.

Thanks guys,
I've just ordered some 6mg, so I'll try those. I just think I'm very quickly getting to the stage where I just plain enjoy vaping! So the added nicotine isn't necessary (well, 80% of the time at least!). I have three different e-cigarettes, So I'll use two for the low mg, and keep one with a higher mg for when I get an actual craving :)

The average nic level used, based on polls from various vaping sites is 16mg - 24mg. For light to social smokers, using 6mg or lower seems to be easy to do. For the majority of the more typical 1+ PAD former smokers, the lack of any throat hit with low - 0 nicotine is a big problem.

You should have an easy time of it, but for many, 0 nicotine eliquid will never do the trick.

I was a 2 PAD smoker for 30 years,,,

I couldn't handle anything more than 14 mg,,,,it burned my eyes and nose really badly,,,,I dropped from 14 to 8 relatively quickly, then I hung on to 8 for 8 months or so,,,,,,and dropped rapidly to 6, 4 and then 0. I DIY so it's pretty easy for me to drop nic,,,,,,

I long ago decided that I am far more addicted to the ACTION of smoking than the nicotine,,,,,,,Vaping replaced that action of smoking for me, and it was relatively easy after that to break the nic addiction.

YMMV. Everyone is different,,,,,,,nobody is better or worse than anyone else for the nic level they vape,,,,,,,whatever works for YOU. Keeping ourselves off the smokes is far more important than how much (or little) nicotine you vape.

I think the best way to get down to 0 mg is to use a flavor that is so good that the TH, nic and whatever else comes with nic is irrelevant. I am a high nicotine user and I recently had 5 Pawns Gambit flavor. Surprisingly enough, I fell in love with their 6 mg flavor but didn't like their 18 mgbecause the nic obscured the flavor profile (and I'm ususallly 24 mg +) . Get a great flavor and the nic shouldn't be missed if you aren't feeling the "need" for nic.

The first time I vaped in '09 I started at 24mg and 18mg, I was at 4mg - 0mg in a month. Turns out it wasn't the nicotine that was making me feel bad it was the PG, but I can't say there was any withdrawal cutting that fast.

This time I started at 11mg (18mg was too much because I was chain vaping getting over wanting a cigarette) was down to 5.5mg and then part time 0mg in 2-3 months, moving into most of the time 0mg after that. This time no problems with VG.

But I did have physical problems with no nicotine so my hopes of no nicotine was ended after I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis after about 6 months. I've since moved up to 18mg and my vaping intake is much like my smoking was @1-1.5PAD lights.

I'm in the don't rush it camp I guess. I started on 24mg and over the last year have tapered down to 15mg. I plan to keep lowering my nic level but I'm in no rush. I love vaping and haven't found a good reason to quit yet other than a lighter wallet. So I don't see myself completely weaning off the vapor or the nicotine.

I've had a "fear", if you will, that if I go too low on the nic, I'll end up swinging into the nearest store to buy a pack of my ol' buddies; Marlboro red 100's. I didn't want that to happen as I've been stinky free since the git-go. I started at 18's and I've been on them since February with no probs.

This last order I got some 12's "just to see". Used them for the first time yesterday.

I couldn't tell the difference !! I still have a few 18's, but I can safely say I'll be at 12's for now.

Red 100's. That was my brand as well. I notice a bit less th with 15 compared to 18 but not that much. And the last bottle I had of 24mg that I pulled out to try actually made me nic sick. Lol.
