I got lucky and got this one from my front yard right after the rain stopped.

I think I hate you. We've had nothing but cloud cover for the last three days with only a little rain. I was really looking forward to this.

I was thinking exactly this -- must be nice for those who live where the sky ISN'T covered in clouds! Most of the entire eastern half of the US was fully covered by clouds for the entire weekend. Stupid weather. :grr:

Thank god, the sky this morning is finally clear! Nice to see the sun again, after A WEEK WITHOUT. My cat is delighted and so am I.

Beautiful pic of Mt Rainier. We had an excellent mountain view of this eclipse. I heard the next one of this type will be in 2033.

Good god, I'll be 72 yrs old. If I manage to live that long. :grr:

Just west of Cool, Texas
I'm waiting for this.

http://www.eclipse2017.org/2017/path_through_the_US.htm

In 2017 there will be a solar eclipse that cuts a path from one side of the United States to the other. Only those in the path of the eclipse will be able to see it, outside the path and you will see a darkening of the sun, with the correct vision protection you can even see the moon taking a bite out of the sun. Although I am an amateur astronomy geek, I have never seen a total solar eclipse. Even if you are directly in the path and no clouds are present, only about 2 and 1/2 minutes of totality will occur. The sun will be completely blocked out, stars will present themselves during the day, the air will cool, evening insects will buzz, birds will hush, and the shadow of the moon will pass.

I plan to be in on the Kansas Missouri state line, 600 miles from my home, to see this rarest of celestial events.

A total solar eclipse is quite something; there have been 3 in my lifetime, and I've "seen" (not directly!) two of them. One that I saw did the entire effects pkg -- it grew quite dark, quite cool (it was summer, but during totality, it didn't feel like summer AT ALL), and was QUITE creepy.

I love these events and plan our activities around them. It's phenomenal to me that we came from the cosmos and that we are made of star stuff.

Andria! I won't be far behind you! So if we are both still alive because we QUIT SMOKING (YAY) we should watch it together and get a group of vapers together in 18 years from now!!! There had better not be moonvertising by then. Talk about ruining the scenery!

I agree! I decided some years ago that I infinitely prefer the idea of cremation over burial -- my wish is that my ashes could be released in space, but my family isn't rich enough for that. Into the ocean would suffice, I suppose, though outside atmosphere is my preference. Maybe we'll hit those 6 lucky numbers sometime between now and then. :D
