I didn't cough either.
Read that one should not be vaping into the lungs, nicotine being vaped doesn't get absorbed there anyway or something like that.
Just pull it into your mouth in a long slow inhale, roll it around like a good wine, and exhale thru your nose.
It's called a flavour puff or something like that.

First i ever heard this.

Kinda voids the point of the throat hit doesn't it?

After years of vaping, this is similar to what I do. I still inhale it, but only very shallow and I don't keep it there anymore. Now that I don't associate vaping with smoking, I don't feel the need to vape like I smoked.

OP: I smoked 1+ PAD for 15 years, and never really coughed up much when I quit. The real difference is that now I never have a dry cough. If I cough a little, I get a reward every time. Mmm. Keep waiting for it to taste like krankberry or bobas, but no luck :p

I didn't think about it but I find that I do vape differently than I smoked. Now that I'm aware of it I think it's good to do it this way vs. the deep inhaling of smoking.

Read a lot of people cough up gunk when they quit the analogs, but so far I haven't experienced any of that. I had my last analog after 40 yrs about 3 1/2 months ago, and was at about 2 1/2 PAD.
Was kind of hoping to to actually see some of that crap clearing out of me, but really happy that the chest pains stopped almost right away.
Anyone else in the same boat?

I've read that it's pretty variable between people. Some start coughing gunk up almost immediately, some it's months later, some never.

I never had "smoker's cough" and haven't had the coughing thing since switching to vaping either. On the other hand, I come from a family that has rampant allergies and sinus issues and I have noticed a big time increase in sinus... whatever it is. And I have hocked up some stuff that has me thinking, WHAT THE HECK IS THAT???? :)

I mean, these days, I wake up with my sinuses going absolutely bonkers and some degree of throat irritation. But since I've allergies, it's hard to sort out which is what. I've read that smokers are prone to coughing in the mornings because the cilia recover to some degree overnight and try cleaning out the lungs. So my noticeably increased sinus chaos could be related. Or not. I dunno.

In a couple of places (no cites handy right now) I've read the... post-smoker cough (?) is not actually a "common" thing. That is, it's not usual to cough after quitting smoking but it's not universal.

I know I don't get winded anything like I used to. Something's better in there. :)

Well not really. Going from mouth to nose, you hit the throat. You don't have to do a deep inhale to get "throat hit". It's just that lungs don't seem to like water much (and vapor is water vapor). They're picky about stuff like that lungs are. :)

I'm not a fan of throat hit. Even as a smoker, it irritated my throat. I preferred a "smooth" kinda smoke (probably why I kept returning to menthols?). I do the shallow inhale with vaping but I can feel a "throat hit" (and a nasal tingly thing) if my nic is too high. Kinda liked the tingle in the nose thing but high nic just drives my throat crazy. It gets mad and I try coughing up a lung...

Same here as the OP. I had chest pains during day and night and I was so worried... I thought the end was near, no kidding. When I started vaping all symptoms had GONE!!! Now, the only problem nowadays is shortness of breath, mostly at nights because I'm chain vaping. I guess I'll have to moderate vaping a little but it feels so good, even better than the analogs I was smoking for more than two decades!

It depends on your delivery method. Using RBAs and doing a full lung hit I can feel the nicotine even with 6mg. That said, I find both methods satisfying. I get more of a throat hit by pulling it into my mouth first and then inhaling but I get more nic taking it directly into my lungs.

But to the OP's question...the first time I quit (21 years ago) was in Marine Corps boot camp and I remember disgorging quite a bit of nasty gunk...but my lungs were being severely challenged at the time. I haven't had any coughing or phlegm this time around.
