Just got the Magma clone by Infinite, great quality but i can't find my happy medium, i've tried 24 gauge 7 wraps, 26 gauge 10 wraps wraps, 28 gauge parallel build 10 wraps (all single coils by the way) i'm also using Japanese cotton. Roughly i've tried 0.3 Ohms, 0.6 Ohms, and 0.8 ohms.

Most of the builds are great for something like my Mutation X rda but to hot for this rda even with both of the biggest holes open and the coil being set right above the air holes, about 2mm which i'm told is the best for flavor.

I'm looking for a single coil build, best location spot for the single coil, a cool/warm vape not hot, i only have 24/26/28 gauge A1 TEMco Kanthal wire. Also is this RDA acceptable for lung hits or mouth to lung only? It's so restrictive compared to my Mutation X v2 even when i have half the Mutation X closed off.

Oh i forgot to mention, i have this mounted on a SMLP Copper Mech Mod.

I have never had luck with the Magma and single coil. I actually retired it to my closet for almost a year before thinking to try it again with dual coil. Now I'm in love with my Magma. I build with 26 gauge wrapped on a 3mm bit about 9-10 times for 0.7 Ohms.

But I also run it at 50W on a regulated mod. So it will be different than your SMPL which will be at about 25.2W.

This is a flavor chasing atty, so the airflow is restrictive. It's easier to take direct lung hits if you pull slowly. A MXV4 is a cloud chasing RDA and has an insane amount of airflow, they are two different breeds of RDA.

Also, set the coils closer to 1.5mm above the airholes.

I will definitely try this, thank you for the suggestions, I'll also try this on my Sigeli 150w box, other question was do you lung hit or mouth to lung?

I have an authentic Magma that sits on a shelf unused. Its possible to do lung hits with it but it really is an older device designed for mouth-to-lung hitters. If you build too low, juice will pop in your mouth. You can't get much air through it, so anything with thicker wire or lower resistances can't get the air it needs. I have never tired it single coil, but I would guess that is even more restricted (mouth-to-lung only probably).... unless you open up the unused side.

At least you only have a clone.

One last thing, be careful using the Magma on your SMPL. It's 510 connection is not setup for a hybrid mod (the pin is not extruded) and could short.
oh glad you told me that, i do remember reading that somewhere but when i got mine, i undid the pin 2 turns and it shortened it down noticeably.

Every article i've read about flavor chasers has mentioned the Magma or the Plumeveil, so i bought both. Right now I like the Plumeveil better because i found my preferred build on it. Can't give up until i've tried everything lol or run out of wire..

You are reading old articles. There is new stuff that comes out nearly every week in this industry. Plume Veil is still a pretty good rda though.

oh glad you told me that, i do remember reading that somewhere but when i got mine, i undid the pin 2 turns and it shortened it down noticeably.

Careful cause by doing that youre also loosening the positive post as well, kinda like the Derringer which isnt adjustable at all. My Infinity Magma was my first dripper and I loved the change from an RTA at first but just got tired of the leaking no matter where I placed the coil or wick.. The Magma wasnt really made for subohming, which wasnt really a big thing when it came out.. Like was already said its a mouth to lung hitter like a good old Kayfun tank. Even with both the big airholes wide open its just too tight to pull hard on it. I gave up on mine about a month after I got it, the thing would leak just sitting there on a stand when I wasnt even using it. Tried putting an oring under the AFC but even now I can go pick it up and see juice coming out of the closed up holes on it even. The big reason why I havent gotten a Freakshow yet is because it has the same type of airflow on it. Luckily I discovered the Derringer and now the Samurai Bonsai, and side airflow is the way to go for me. They actually 'ruined' my vaping habits so Im pretty much a big lung hitter now. Havent even touched my Kayfuns in almost a month now, I just cant do it anymore hehe. When I did use it, I stuck to a single coil, 29ga anywhere from 1-1.5 ohms.. Max wattage around 18 or so cause it gets pretty hot if you start to go above that. When it worked it did have some awesome flavor, but nothing compared to the exact same build in my Derringer, and it cant even touch my 26ga 1 ohm build in my Bonsai..

I have the Copper Mutation X v4 on the way, is that a decent RDA for a little bit of everything? (Flavor + Vapor Production) I'm still going to use my Magma but on my K-Box regulated mod at home i never give up until i've tried everything to make it work.

I'm a big lung hitter as well ever since i got my v1 of the Mutation X RDA, i've just gotten use to those big full airy lung hits and blowing out those enjoyable clouds feels so natural, like breathing in fresh air after being stuck inside all day.

Maybe it's the juice i'm using that isn't giving me that oh wow that tastes so good!! All my juices are from Cloud Chasers Inc. which are 100% vg, i have 120ml of every flavor i believe lol so trying to use them up before buying more.

What others have written in this thread seems to totally go against my findings.
I have had my Magma for a year or so and still use it on a daily basis, regardless of having bought other newer hyped RDAs.

I have never heard of it not being a sub-ohm friendly, it depends totally on your build, the ohms and the wattage, not the resistance on it's own.

My current build is 0.2ohms dual coil, 22AWG 7 wraps per coil (spaced, about 2mm diameter) and it is a delightful vape at 75Watts. It is warm, but not hot, the wicks remain unscorched after days of vaping. It does not leak unless I overfill it.
I am a lung hitter and have no problems with doing that with the Magma, if you are having troubles then the easiest thing to do is to change your drip tip, change it for a wider bore one, it makes all the difference.
My coils are 1mm from the airholes and the flavour is super strong.

That actually is a good point.. The drip tip I bought for mine was the "Mix Boy" from 101 Vapes (at first I was using the tip off my EHPro Kayfun Lite+ V2). Its wider than my Kayfuns but its nothing like the tips I have on my Derringer or Bonsai. I did in fact lung hit my Magma, but those were the days when I was pretty much Kayfun Lite/V4 all day long so it wasnt like the types of hits I take now with the big airflow of my newest faves.. I did get a 2 Puffs drip tip when I ordered my Bonsai clone but just use the stock tip on it.. Maybe Ill go try it on my Magma one last time, the delrin adapter broke off my Mix Boy anyways and its too loose now hehe. Guess I could throw a 26ga build in it too and see how it does.. Probably still gonna leak all over me though! ;)

Thats good to hear! I do have a wide bore drip tip on mine, nothing like the airflow of the Mutation X and the whistling bugs me a little but lung hits are possible.

I use a fake 2Puffs drip tip on mine (the two part ones on Fasttech), also use them on my Orchid and Aqua V2, even used them on my Kayfuns (until I retired them).

Just make sure that your wick does not touch the sides of the Magma well (I mean the metal that surrounds the airhole in particular), that does cause some leakage sometimes.

For single coil mode I use 7 wraps 22AWG (about 35Watts 0.4ohms) and have both sets of airholes open (middle setting). To be honest I prefer it in single coil mode, the flavour is too intense for me with dual coil and the juice doesn't run out so quickly of course.

Haha! Yeah, I totally get the whistling thing! I just tell myself that it could be worse, some people purchased the Turbo RDA...

Yeah I got my drip tip from AngelCigs when I got the Bonsai clone so I imagine mines a fake too even though its got the logo (hey my Bonsai has a Cloud Factory serial# too haha).. Yeah getting the wick away from the deck was one of the hardest parts no matter how far back I pushed the coil. Im gonna give it another shot in a bit here. Just settling down for the night after watching a couple baseball games so now I got time to do some coils.. Gotta make a new one for the Derringer too with my new 26ga and see if I can make it taste like the Bonsai does. Guess I better get ready to make some more juice if the other two start 'popping' like the Bonsai does.. Good thing I just got 2 liters of PG and VG and enough nic from Vapers Tek to last me like 5 years haha. I might have to get ANOTHER Sigelei mini if I can get the Magma back into the rotation.. The two I have are dedicated to the Derringer and the Bonsai.. Eh might as well get another one, finally got a new job today so I can treat myself!!

Ok rebuilt the Magma this morning. Single coil, 10 wraps/26ga/2mm hits 1 ohm. Think the coil is finally wide enough it looks like its keeping the tails away from the deck enough I havent had a leak yet after like 3/4 fills, and the coil is actually covering the airhole too. I think both the Derringer and Bonsai have just ruined me though heh. The flavors coming through but its just not 'there', although Im gonna keep using it today because I can fill it if I have to drive somewhere and not worry about it being empty 2 minutes down the road. Maybe Ive just gotten used to the big hits or something the other two put out. I will say though, the Magma seems to be kicking my .... nic wise, starting to get a little spinny after a few vapes, not sure if I just had too much coffee this morning or what hehe. The 2 Puffs drip tip kinda sucked on it, it was too wide to get a decent vape, so I pulled the acrylic top off to use as a base and stuck the top of the Mix Boy in it and that seems to be working good.. Ill probably stick this thing on my Vamo v7 which gets no use whatsoever nowadays, although I use it with my 18350s so Ill probably be charging those quite often at 18w haha. The fact that it doesnt sit flush still bugs the crap out of me but at least on the Vamo I can move the top cap up and cover it. :D
