OK guys and Gals, I'm sold....one more piece of vape gear (scale) will be ok I guess. I must admit I always saw the logic in this method, just was reluctant to change.

People seem to have latched on to this American Weigh scale Amazon.com: American Weigh Scales LB-501 Digital Kitchen Scale: Kitchen & Dining. But having used both, I feel this scale with larger numbers, quicker reading, and no shut off in battery mode is much better for our needs. 500g x 0.01g High Precision Digital Scale SF-400D2 Counting w/ USB Wall Adapter. This is going to be some of the best money you spend on mixing!

The recommended scales are much more expensive where i'm from and crazy shipping/import price, so personally I just use el-cheapo FT or DX scales from china.

I don't bother with calibrations etc on such cheap scales, but always use the method of looking one of your local coins weight up on wikipedia and then I after bying the weight + once in a while afterwards, check with said coin five times in a row, and for a 0.01g scale, then if the weight is consistent and max 0.01(0.02 is OK too for me personally) off, then it's OK for me to use...

I've never had my 2 scales fail yet, in over a year, and the cost where about 10 bucks, the other 15... One is a 500/0.01g and the other a 1000/0.1g for big batches of e.g. 500ml's... I did ditch another scale I got, right from the start though because it failed my testings... It was a 1000/0.05g for big batches, but it needed about 0.5g weight to update the display, although precise enough after that, but not good enough for DIY, since you could pour e.g 100ml up without it registering anything if it was just done slowly i.e. under 0.5g at a time...

A balance and some rocks will service if that's all you got :) The larger scales are just easier. Easier to read, bigger buttons, large cleanable surface etc. Cheap scales work just fine though. As long as you are working in percentages, it doesn't really even have to be accurate as long as it is consistently inaccurate.

Not that it matters a whole super whole lot (we're talking two one-thousandths of a gram, and our scales only have resolution in the hundredths usually) but I see folks saying PG is 1.038g/ml, and I thought it was supposed to be 1.036. Here is the quick reference chart I have saved on my phone:

Water (@ 4°C): 0.999 972 (just call it 1)
PG: 1.036
VG: 1.261
Nic: 1.01
PGA: 0.789

100mg nic/PG: 1.0334
100mg nic/VG: 1.2359

60mg PG: 1.03444
PG = Nic * .6683
1 part nic : 0.6683 parts PG
1.4962 parts nic : 1 part PG
----------
For 50ml:
30ml 100mg/PG: 31.002g
20ml PG: 20.72g

60mg VG: 1.24594
VG = Nic * .6802
1 part nic : 0.6802 parts VG
1.4701 parts nic : 1 part VG
----------
For 50ml:
30ml 100mg/VG: 37.077g
20ml VG: 25.22g

6mg 60PG/40VG: 1.125169(avg.)
Per 10ml:
----------
PG nic (1.125844)
1ml 60mg PG: 1.03444g
5ml PG: 5.18g
4ml VG: 5.044g
-----OR-----
VG nic (1.124494)
1ml 60mg VG: 1.24594g
6ml PG: 6.216g
3ml VG: 3.783g

3mg 70VG/30PG: 1.1930845
1 part 6mg 60/40: 1.125169(avg.)
1 part VG: 1.261

I would've gotten the scale you recommend, or the other one recommended, if it didn't cost 3x what you pay, so i'll have to suffice with the cheaper ones... Yes, fully agreed on the consistent inaccuracy is fine, and that's what I always test with a coin frequently. When/if it stops being consistent, i'll just replace it...
