Hello all, new to the forum here. Im 28years old, been smoking for about 10 years on and off. Marlboro Lights to be specific. I smoke a pack every 1-3 days. Im building a new apartment that was affected by Hurricane Sandy and don't want to smoke in the new apartment, so I figured its time to quit and move on to vapor. And hopefully quit for good. Not ready for the cold turkey method though. Ive done my research and looking for your recommendations. Ive come to the conclusion I would like to try out both atomizers and cartomizers to see which one I like. But what are these clearomizers? I kinda like the look of them with the diff colors.

Price is not really an issue, im the type of guy who likes to customize everything and buy the best product for the best price.

Things I want to consider: a hard case, colored drip tips, clearomizer, and battery size.

Im thinking of 650mah, the 1000mah just look too big for my liking. Will the 650 be able to last me a day and charge at night?

Im between:

Riva 510 Carto Deluxe $35

OR

Joye Ego C 650mah Kit $71 (like the LED light function with low charge)

OR

SmokeTek eGO 650 CE4 - Changeable coil Clearomizer Kit w/ case $48

Do they all have the on/off button?
Are they all compatible with cartomizer/clearomizers?
Are they all compatible with 510 drip tip?

Coming from marlboro lights, what flavors do you suggest to try? I know none will taste like a marlboro light, but id like to get close. Something light and smooth.

Thanks in advance, for your feedback and advice, much appreciated!

I suggest you buy a starter kit. Most every site you visit will have them. Near the top of this page you will see a box called "forum suppliers". Click that to see the vendors banners. You want a 510 connection. Its pretty much the industry standard. There is also a Ego 510 connection. You would need an adapter (510 to ego) in order to put a run ego products on a 510 connection and vice versa. As far as liquid, most vendors sale a sample pack for not too much money. getting a sample pack lets you try their flavors and decide what you might like. you don't want to buy bigger bottles just to find out you don't like it. hope this gives you a couple steps in the right direction. i'm sure other folk will be along to help you too. good luck

I just started vaping 2 weeks ago and I bought an eGo-C Starter Kit with 1000 mAh and the battery will not last me all day, 4-5 hours tops.
eGo does not have on/off, 5 quick press/release will either turn on/off. eGo is based on standard 510 thread so it should fit most cartomizer/clearomizer. I am using Kanger T3 clearomizer without an adapter. Regarding drip tip, if you order the Starter Kit, it comes with drip tips, atomizer and everything BUT e-liquids.

At the present time, there's no e-liquids that resemble tobacco taste, so don't waste your time looking for them.

Good luck!

The problem, of course, is that without burning something, you can't get the authentic taste of something burning in your vape -- if you think you have, it's probably because something's gone wrong.

What you can get is the smell of unburned tobacco, or even stuff that tastes a bit like pipe smoke instead of cigarette smoke. So if you wanted to vape the scent of a freshly-opened pack of cigarettes, you could get that -- just not the taste of a lit one.

That said, vapor4life.com has a "Parliament" flavor that I (after years of not smoking) find very close to both how I remember cigarettes tasting and how other people's cigarette smoke tastes and smells to me now. It's light, but I don't think I'd call it smooth -- it strikes me as acrid and harsh. Then again, so does actual cigarette smoke, at this point. Their "Dunhall", "Wowboy", "Virginia", and "Hilton" flavors all taste like the distinct characteristics of the brands they're modeled on, but more like the fresh-opened-pack smell than the burning-cigarette taste. Only the Parliament, of all the flavors I've tried, has come close to that distinction. I spent years as a Marlboro Reds smoker, and the Wowboy is close enough to give me fits of nostalgia for the places and people I spent those years with. It has that chocolatey taste.

First of all: welcome! Second of all: congrats on choosing to make the switch!

Alright, on to the data :D

I started with a Riva 650 mah kit. No on/off capability on the Riva, and 650 would not last me through a day. I would start on battery A while B charged in the morning. Mid afternoon I'd switch to B and put A on to charge. Have both of them off the charger while I slept (don't charge batteries unattended, they CAN and DO have issues), and repeat the process the next day. I've since moved on to a 1000mah that gets me through the day. I sip on a 650mah backup while the big one charges.

Atomizers are likely not a route you'll take, UNLESS you choose to have an atomizer for dripping (something I highly recommend everyone learn to do eventually). Older ecig setups would have 3 parts: battery for power, atomizer to create heat, and cartridge to deliver juice to the heat (which is how we get vapor).

That's not used as much now. Most people have a 2 part system: battery for power, and a "juice+heat" combo unit. It might be a cartomizer (an atomizer and cartridge combined), it might be a clearomizer (the clear tube full of juice with wicks that take juice to the coil head, which produces the heat). Then there's the next step, or perhaps a back step depending on your perspective: carto tanks. It's a cartomizer that sits inside a tank full of juice, so back to a 3 piece system.

The things I didn't know (or didn't think) would be important to me when I started a month ago:

  • on/off switch is a must. Riva didn't cut it for that reason.
  • I will never be without a passthrough battery. Passthroughs let you vape WHILE they charge, which is a nice piece of security.
  • I only like cartomizers with strong flavors (mint, cinnamon). Anything else I prefer in a clearo. This may or may not apply to you.
  • Have extra chargers.
  • You almost certainly don't know what flavor or nic level you want or need. I certainly didn't. Buy a variety of both to see what satisfies you.

I don't like recommend most of the eGo starter kits because most provide a two-piece cartridge system along with the batteries which I feel are inferior to the other juice delivery devices availble. I think it's better to just order the batteries and other supplies separate so that you get the parts that are best suited for you. Below are what I would recommend from a vendor like Altsmoke AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | Your one stop shop!:
_____

Batteries (two) AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | Authentic Joye eGo or eGo-T 650mAh Battery 650 mah batteries will give you approximately 6.5 hours use between a charge, the 1000 mah batteries will give you approximately 10 hours.

Charger AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | eGo Series - USB Battery Charger - Chargers - Accessories

Optional usb/wall adaptor AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | eGo-C - USB Wall Adapter - Chargers - Accessories allows you to charge your batteries when away from a computer's usb port and any wall outlet.

Optional carrying case AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | eGo Carrying Case - Small, Medium, Large
______

Juice carrying devices. I would choose a variety of two of the three listed. Everyone has their own preference based on experience and vaping habits. Trying out at least two will allow you to decide which best suits you.

single coil cartomizers.jpg
Cartomizers AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | Smok Tech Single Coil Cartomizers 1.7 ohm, 2.0 ohm, 2.5 ohm, 3.2 ohm

Thanks, Great Info. I thought it would be better to build my own.

Baditude, where do you get all those custom pyrex tanks and tips? I like your style, I love hand blown glass and have a nice collection myself. Do you whip those nice pieces out in public, Im kinda looking for something small/compact for an everyday vape. Once i determine I like it, Ill def have get some of those for the home use.

It seems most people have the provari, BB and silver bullets, whats the differnece between those and the Ego-C battery?

As far as the cartomizers, whats the diff between single and double coil and which Ohms should I go for?

Ok so ive done a bit more research. Before I jump to the big boys, I figure I will try this route first, to make sure I like it. How does this look? This is going to be my first purchase:

(1) Ego-C 650 mAh battery - Stainless
(1) Ego-C Twist 650 mAh battery - Black
(1) SmokTech XL Cartomizer - Stainless
(1) Vision Clearomizer - Black
(1) Vision Vivi Nova -2ml
(4) Different Drip tips
(1) Ego USB charger
(1) Hard Carrying Case

As far as e-liquids go:
Ive already placed an order at HHV for a sample pack including: Cinful Pear, Angels Kiss, DD watermelon & Dark Horse.
Any other good sites with sample packs I should definitely try?

I feel I'll def start mixing my own, but I figure to start, lets stick to the already mixed flavors.
