I guess this really ought to go in Tips & Tricks, but I lack the permission, so its here instead.
Im a newb whos smoked 40+ conventional fags a day for half a century, but not a single one since I discovered e-cigs about a month ago. I feel the need to get as good a hit as possible for each drag. I believe Im vaping a 901, but would be pleased if someone could confirm this. It measures 11.8 cms, is described as a Mini and has the single (vital) air hole on the atomizer, exactly 5 mm from where it joins the battery unit.
I discovered that drawing on the e-cig in the normal way results in a slight delay before the LED activates. To my simple mind, this suggests that I am wasting all of my suck before the battery kicks in and the atomizer heats up. I also discovered that holding my thumb on the hole (blocking it) while I draw results in the LED lighting, the atomizer heating, but nothing coming out (obviously). I havent tested this, but assume that continuing this will flatten the battery and probably destroy the atomizer.
So, what I have been doing is placing my thumb on the hole, drawing, and as soon as I feel resistance to my draw, sliding my thumb off the hole. This results in a more sudden draw and seems to activate everything much more quickly. I certainly seem to get more vapour for my draw. I should add that I have mild COPD (Congestive Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), so my drawing abilities are a tad limited. As you can probably guess, my medical people have ordered me to stop smoking to no effect.
During this time (about three weeks of using this method) I have presided over the deaths of two batteries and one atomizer. I dont particularly mind this as its a small price to pay against roughly £75 a week (cost of conventional fags in the UK). The batteries still seem to take a charge, but sucking no longer activates them. The atomizer simply worked well, then suddenly didnt work at all. Is this par for the course, or is my technique killing them? Like I say, I dont really care, but it would be good to know.
Also, for the record, Im a topper rather than a dripper. During the month Ive been vaping, Ive vaped approx 50ml of liquid. Im still using my original cart and I wouldnt describe it as having gone brown yet.
