Just to add I am new to this and seen an article of an ecig exploding and most of the comments on the web site that had the article were stating that most ecig failures are due to charging it wrong??.....its just easier for me recharge the battery in a wall socket than plugging it into my laptop....I don't want one of these exploding

thanks again

Hi Wilks
These are normally Lipo batteries we are using so we're exposed to all the risks associated with these batteries just like users of cell phones, lap tops, etc etc etc. It has little to do with what we're using them for so much as how they are being used. So you are right in wanting to be careful with them.

The cigalikes tend to use Lithium Ion batteries. The LiPo batteries are usually in the larger box mods.

Well, that depends on your attitude to risk. There have been problems (in the UK) with people charging cheap (and nasty) e-cigs using usb chargers attached to 'fruit' wall adapters.

Ideally, use a correctly specified wall adapter. In your case, that would be a 500mAh output adapter. (We've got lots of these from old dinosaur batteries, like yours  )

Mark 10 sell a wall adapter (wart?) which is specified as this;

  • Input: 100-240V | Output Current: 500mA

In your case, the usb on your computer is fast enough. USB 1.0/2.0 = 500mAh (per 'unit') USB 3.0 = 900mAh (per 'unit').

Don't pay $8 for any replacement ones.... they are barely $3 batteries.
Got to love these tobacco company products. NOT.

hi all nice forum!!!
I just started using these and was wondering if its ok to put the supplied usb charger into a wall charger like a iPhone wall charger adapter or do these need to go strictly into your laptop?
thanks and I look forward to this forum

Welcome and glad you joined. I have no idea if experimenting outside the manufacturers spec's would work. You might want to talk to the manufacturer of the vape equipment and obtain a safe and accurate answer.

Better avoid the usb port on the computer. If something goes wrong you might fry the port, which might fry the computer motherboard. Use a usb wall adapter like the iphone one. Just make sure that it provides the correct voltage and has at least the mA required by the mod. More is better in this case.

I have been using 18650 Batteries and their bigger cousins the 26650 for several years and never had a problem when using external chargers which plug into my household electricity supply. I have also used the Ego II style batteries with their supplied wall chargers. Again no issues. I avoid mods that have inbuilt batteries for two reasons:

1. The recharge cycle of most batteries ranges between 300-400 recharges
2. When the battery that is inbuilt dies, then you have to throw away the whole mod as its a real pain trying to dismantle and fit a new battery and that is not a job for a novice. I have done it on a eleif but I do not recommend doing so.

A battery will vent and possibly explode if shorted out; i.e. the positive and negative contacts joined without an appropriate resistance load in between. Most stories we hear of batteries exploding is due to such shorting out by incorrect transportation in pockets with metalic objects or vape pen type devices not turned off. Most modern day vapes have a 10 second cut out, so if the fire button is depressed accidental it will prevent overheating and the risk of explosion. Alas there are still some crap devices being sold on the market that do not have this feature. Mechanical mods I avoid.
