Extreme noob to the hobby, and have found Black Note Solo to be a perfect replacement to smoking Marlboro Menthol.
With upcoming regs, a DIY mix is in order, and I haven’t ran across as many recipes as I’d expected for this flavor. I plan on ordering for this mix, any flavor substitutes you see that I may consider? The menthol kick seems to be the hard part to get right, any tips? Any special PG/VG/NIC brands to use?
Thx for any suggestions..

People seem to know a lot about upcoming regulations, but there seem to be few actual details.

What do you think these regulations will be?

Meanwhile as far as diy goes, Marlboro is frequently equated with the term “American tobacco” so some sort of “American tobacco menthol” might get close for you. With flavorings it can become very very hard to hit an exact flavor for a specific person though. We all taste them differently.

Being that Black Note Solo is a N.E.T. (naturally extracted tobacco) eliquid, and even the mint/menthol they use is naturally extracted from peppermint leaves, it may be difficult to reproduce with synthetic flavors.

You might try stixxmixx NET flavors -- perhaps a mix of their Yenidje Oriental and Turkish Oriental for a tobacco base, and then experiment with menthol/spearmint/peppermint flavorings/additives (or try to extract your own).

Surprised a industry to attract smokers, doesn’t have bottles of the top brands used by them ready to go.
It's extremely difficult (and probably impossible) to make an e-liquid flavor that "tastes like a cigarette".

Excluding NET's (naturally extracted tobacco), all e-liquid flavoring agents are mostly flavors that are extracted and concentrated from the food industry. Can you name any food that tastes like a cigarette? I don't know any food that tastes like shredded tobacco leaves, smoke, and ashes.

Why You Don't Need an E-Liquid that Tastes Like Cigarettes

I used to work for a vape shop, and had many a customer tell me, "Give me a flavor that tastes like a Marlboro Red" or this or that. I believe I was totally honest with them when I told them, that's not going to happen. You can chase that unicorn tobacco flavor by spending hundreds of dollars trying to find it, or you can more easily find a candy, fruit, desert, or coffee flavor that you will enjoy vaping just as much if not more.

I got some pre-made tobacco juices ("gold label" and "western") I never like marlboro (camel or american spirit for me) but I did notice the "gold label" tasted like a nasty marlboro... I like the western much better. Might look for a flavor concentrate with similar name. There is a company that has NET but is very pricey... they have pre-made and "3X" for DIY:

I think I’m on right track now-thx for links. Planning on getting pg/vg/nic @ vapertek and six of the extracts from stixxmix. Hopefully I can find a base/blend from these, and then begin experimenting with the mints.
The SM is a third the cost, and goes twice as far as the other NET offerings, so not sure what the difference in quality will be. Thought it better to start my experiment with the SM brand.

I chased the ultimate cigarette flavored vape for a while after starting to vape. None really produced the essence of burning tobacco, IMO. Lots of them smelled like a Winston or a Marlboro if you sniffed the bottle, but the vape was more reminiscent of the smell of an open pack of smokes.

DNB added to various tobacco flavors came close, but I gave up the flavor thing years ago and started vaping unflavored DIY juice. I mix up a tobacco flavor here and there at 6% or whatever the average is for that flavor and add a squirt of that to a tank of unflavored once in a while just for a change.

Once your taste buds have healed from years of smoking cigarettes your taste buds slowly regain their sensitivity and flavors become a little overwhelming if you mix them at the same rates you liked when you quit the stinkies.

Vaping is fundamentally different from smoking. Perhaps I could suggest that you embrace this with your flavour choices rather than hanging on to the old.
I’ve been vaping Black Note Solo for a month now, and fail to see where that’s hanging on to the old. I enjoy the flavor, and want to get in the ballpark with a DIY mix that will work for me.
Inhaling a jelly doughnut isn’t a priority, although I’ve tried a few grape, cinnamon, apple, and menthol flavors.
I do have some Air Factory Blue Razz in a mod next to the Solo;)

Iirc all the Black note juices are nets which can make such things complicated

^^^^^^
Did exactly this, and have 7 flavors of nets steeping now. Also have 6 of the standard synthetic flavors steeping.
Have eight menthol/mint options to experiment with.
I tried a little aged burley with one drop of menthol, and feel like I can find several different mixes to enjoy.
Learning how to build a 1.0 coil while I wait for my rda to arrive.

That's good to hear --- finding/making flavor profiles that you enjoy and are satisfying is a big part of transitioning to, and sticking with, vaping.

Guess I’m on the dark side of vaping—MTL, tobacco, and NETS I didn’t consider some may struggle to transition, and anything Tobacco related may risk relapse. In my case, starting on NETS made it a piece of cake, and I’m mad I didn’t look into it sooner.
Been on the SM Ky American today, and could use it alone at 4%. Seems a great candidate to play with flavors.
Also interesting is the difference tank/coils play in the flavor profiles. This RDA takes it to next level.
Fun hobby

After only a 3 day steep, have tried all 7 of the Stixx Mixx flavors I ordered. I expected to trash a few, but found all to be enjoyable as a stand alone mixed at their max recommended %.
Cap menthol provides a light mint taste that works for me, and 5 drops in 5ml of the aged burley is the simple solution for now. I plan on experimenting in the next few months and fine tune it for sure.
LaborDay is code for for 25% off SM thru midnite today.
