I posted this in the general forum to get more exposure. Maybe we can make a sticky if there is enough intrest.

Link to eliquid study
http://healthnz.co.nz/RuyanCartridgeReport21-Oct-08.pdf

On the second to last page, table 1.2 shows nicoting strength as a liquid percentage, 16mg = 1.6%, 11mg =1.1% and so on. I suppose the same is true for 24mg and 36mg, 2.4% and 3.6%.

To me this looks like 10ml 24mg strength of eliquid would contain 2.4% nicotine. I know absorbation must be factored and that is covered in another study (link posted on this forum somewhere). I have the pdf but can't upload it, too big.

Now for my question.

Lets assume 1 analog is 2mg of nicotine. Lets assume that I smoke 20 analogs a day, that means I am taking in 40mg of nicotine per day.

Now I want to match that with eliquid, how much 24mg strength eliquid do I need to vape in one day? (ml/day)

Just simple intake calcs is all I'm looking for. Then I can factor in absorbtion, which by the way is very low according to the study I mentioned.

I'm gonna try this but would like correction if wrong, as this is how I understand it.

To know what nic content you need you have to figure out how many ml of liquid you are vaping a day. If you Vape 1 ml a day then you would need 40mg per ml to get your 40 mg of nic in a day, or if you go through 3 ml of juice a day the you would need something in the range 13.3 mg per ml juice.

Think of it like this if you had a 3ml dropper bottle and you put in 1 ml of 24 mg nic juice and 1 ml of VG and 1 ml of PG, you would have a total of 3 ML of juice mix with a content of 8 mg per ml. If you had a 10 ML bottle and you put in 5 ML of 24mg nic juice and 5 ML of cut (VP or PG or both) then you have a total of 10ML of mix with a total of (24 * 5) 120mg of nic, so each 1 ML of mix would contain 12 mg of nic.

I think you got it, but if not I hope someone corrects you too.

So if you're right, then you have to divide that nicotine content by a factor of 10 supposedly.
That's due to the NZ study that we are only absorbing 1/10th the nicotine we do from a cigarette.

I came up with a rough equation that got lambasted in a prior thread, but it is still a solid approximation IMO:

OK, so my rough equation for selecting juice density is:

(mg nicotine in your analog) * 10

BTW, the 10 comes the rough equivalent of .1 ml / cig, which of course depends on the hardware being used and its consumption rate on average.

# mg per day analog / # mg per ml in the juice = # ml of juice

So, 40mg / 24mg per ml = 1.67ml of 24mg juice.

Since I used to smoke three packs of analogs a day, then I would need 1.67ml x 3; or 5ml of 24mg juice a day. And this is precisely what I vape.

The NZ study and another one with the Cancer Institue going on right now is using 16mg/ml density. It is used as a standard, as per my own concept, BTW. However absorbtion levels generate in curves, not linear so would not be accurate to just multiplyX2 for example. I just did a urine test that uses the by-product of nicotine Cotinine as the testing standard, and in my particular case using PV and 24mg/ml juice my cotinine level was at 200-500 ng / ml. Cigarette smoking as I can find for cotinine levels would have generated 1000-5000 ng / ml in cotinine. Just for example. To my limited ability, the NZ test correlated pretty much with my own personal findings. I will do another in a few days and post those results, also, for either discrepancy or verification. (I hope to verify, since this level of cotinine is about 1/10th that of my smoking days!)

Please do searches on the FORUM for more information, this is a link to the testing I did. Others have tested, with different results.
