Backstory (not necessary reading for the question at hand):

So, I ordered my RS in January of this year and I've been vaping away at 7.4v using 2 18350's to get the job done. Recently, I've had difficulty finding the joyetech "HV-6" high-voltage atomizer (anything else didn't seem to last 1/4 as long as those). So, I switched to using a single 18650 battery @ 3.7v and a 1.5-2 Ohm atomizer. I've been using the betterlife 3 hole dripping atomizer (I drip of course), and I love it. The only problem is I have a bunch (6) 18350s with lots of life left in them, and only 1 18650. I don't want to have to buy a bunch of new batteries if I can use the old ones.

Actual question:

Is there a way I can safely use a single 18350 in the space designed for an 18650? I first thought of using a wad of aluminum foil as a spacer, but that seems dangerous. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your help, ECF!

It's not so much a danger as a logistics problem. Usually the space that is reserved for a battery, and the spring of the unit, do not allow for different sized batteries to be used. You can try it, but you do so at your own risk. I do not claim to be an expert in theoretical battery size swapping. I am of the mind that if you are dead set on doing so that Alpman has a good suggestion. Spacers may bridge the gap between spring and battery post.

The Maxi Roughstack was designed for a variety of battery combinations. Two of the four options are 2 x 18350 (7.4v) and 1 x 18650 (3.7v). The other two I haven't used, but basically there are 2 x 3v batteries you can put in there for a 6v option or another single battery at like 5v. I guess I can see about getting an aluminum core cut at home depot.

I forgot I posted here and just went with the foil last night while my single 18650 was charging. It worked. No fire. I did only put the foil in there while I was actually vaping, taking it out as soon as I took a couple hits.

Thanks for the advice, folks!
