When I first got into vaping I was setup with two Winders from a local B&M shop about 5-6 weeks ago for my wife and I. A few weeks later I bought a 650 grenade EGO as a backup but loved the size and the Davide combo so much I made it my main battery using the Winder as a backup.

A few days ago my wife's Winder just fell apart on her. But because my wife has a history of carelessness I blamed it on her rather than the device. It's certainly fixable (the red wire disconnected) and I'll get to it soon enough. Thankfully my wife has a backup so it's not a big deal.

But yesterday my Winder fell apart, in the same place as my wife's. Thankfully no wires were broke so I was able to stick the head back into the housing and everything is working ok again. But damn! I am very careful with my gadgets. I've owned an iPhone 4S with no case for 2 years with no scratches. My Winder didn't break because I'm not careful with it. It broke because it's a POS and I haven't even been using it as my main battery for weeks now.

I've seen many a post where people just getting started ask about the EGO they should start out with and the Winder is always on the list. This is my PSA that maybe it shouldn't be. And God only knows if you do then get it from a reputable vendor that will accept returns if, or when, it decides to break on you. Do other EGO batteries have the same issues? My wife has a Kanger EVOD battery and it doesn't look like it will break the same way as the Winder did, but who knows.

If you have a lot of experience with EGO-type batteries please post your recommendations/stories! Who makes a quality EGO battery?

When people ask what variable voltage Ego to buy, you'll find that 99% of the time the Joyetech Ego-C Twist and Vision Spinner are recommended about equally (with Joye coming in ahead because the brand is more popular). Then the Smoktech Winder is third on the list. So if you just order a couple Joyes or Visions you'll be happy.

If you have a couple extra dollars to throw around, you should also look into the Innokin iTaste VV V3. It's about the same length as a 650 mah variable voltage Ego, but it adds the features of pass-through charging, an ohm checker, battery level checker, and variable wattage.

Oh, and a note about Joye: while it's the most popular and trusted, it's also the most cloned, by far. So if you order those, please make sure the website you choose says something like "genuine" or "manufactured by Joyetech." Someone like Sweet-Vapes.com, GoodProphets.com, GotVapes.com, etc. will do you right.

Totally agree and you can add Steven's Wholesale to the list of genuine Joyetech and Vision Spinner batteries.
