I always have hope guys we will see I am constantly amazed by what is being thought up will see if it is all that it is hyped to be i hope so. I tried to get some University students to do some testing for me sort of like a project but it didnt work out. I just thought the more info the better. We all know we cant trust the powers that be ie the FDA and health Canada.

I dont want to be pessimistic but I am a lab technician and work with spectrometers every day. I am very sure this is a gadget. Like they say, a normal spectrometer measures electromagnetic waves (visible light, X-rays , infrared waves,...) So this one measures infrared waves wich are basically heat rays. Usually you have to dial in a certain wavelenght or area in wich the machine will measure the intensity of the rays, compare it with a known sample and calculate a result. These are quit bulky machines coupled with big computers and that is for one wavelenght and certain kind of samples. Do you hear me coming? To go from there to shine at something with a light and giving as a result wether your melon is ripe? I dont know? I will not spend too much money on a device like that, but thats just my thought

Gotta start somewhere... As things get smaller and better, the EM spectrum will be expanded.

If this device delivers 1% of the goal, it has broken new ground and will get new type of industry behind them. We just went through similar experience. There used to be a machine big enough to fill a large room wall to wall called mainframe. Now we carry much more capacity in our pocket. I love the fact that these guys didn't get bought out by the big medical companies and, instead, they went through kickstarter route. I hope they stick through the rough weather ahead and give the big companies run for their money.
I welcome the new era of personal smart sensors.

I think the solution they are providing is a crowd source solution like everything these days. I think it is enough for them to identify a footprint of the item and then enough people identifying it as VG for example (even the specific brand) and you will have a database. It is more the ID of the item than the actual chemical composition of the item. They define an apple to have a certain footprint, and with a confidence level when you try the light on another apple it will give you the same footprint.

These days it has been proven that crowd sourcing can do miracles and if this is the way they are going it might actually work (although i didn't see anywhere where you would correct the data they gave you and contribute to building the database)

And nothing else but ability to focus on nicotine level in the juice, that by itself would be worth so much.
And before you know it, Imeo will integrate this function into Proteus II.:lol::lol:
