Let me start off by saying. I love this mod and believe in this company. I'm a loyal customer and will continue to be. Having said that, I feel like I should share this because when searching for answers, I didn't find a whole lot on ECF about MCR tech issues.

I purchased my MCR101 mod back in June. All SS, 18650 tube, flat top cop, ss button and switch assembly. Received it and within the week I began to have issues. It's not every single time O pick it up. Sometimes days go by without issues but then they creep up and I'm somewhat annoyed.

I AM NO EXPERT AND I AM JUST OFFERING MY EXPERIENCE.

Now we begin------

Main Issues: Magnets & Button Getting Stuck in Firing Position. Hot button.

-The mod has 3 small magnets in the switch assembly (12mm OD x 8mm ID x1 mm Thickness). I believe these magnets to be the reason. Since they are so thin, they attract each other on the very edge forming a zig-zag pattern down the button's pole (female insert for the negative pin) which would then cause the button to not be smooth, stick, etc. These magnets also getting stuck together might have something to do with the button overheating issue which has been huge with my mod. Maybe connecting a circuit, creating a short, something. Not sure on the science of it. Either way, the magnets heated up with the button and they became useless. One of them actually became magnetic on both sides.

Maybe the lock ring has something to do with it sticking? Who knows?

Getting tired of the song and dance, I emailed MCR with my issues. Liam from MCR sent a new button (just the button itself) and new magnets my way immediately. Talk about customer service! :) It seemed to fix the problem but soon, it just happened again. Button hot, button getting stick in fire position to where you have to shake the mod or give the button a tap to stop it form firing, magnets getting stuck.... It was really frustrating.

I read two magnets might help. I tried using only two magnets, and same problem. Kinda worse.

Since MCR sent me more magnets, I tried experimenting with them. The best solution that has the best results was sticking two magnets together on both opposing sides (4 total, practically two at 2mm thick) and that seemed to work great. Also having two stuck together and opposing only one seemed to work. But, the latter would get stuck together every once in a while. Only issue with the 4 magnet set-up.... The negative pin barely came up higher than the delrin insulator in the switch assembly. Pressure was needed but at least I could vape without trouble shooting the hell out of it. And yes, I couldn't tell you how many times I cleaned this sucker and make sure all connections were tight. I read, I sought answers, I really did. I just wasn't coming up with much results. "Were these mods not made for low resistance vaping?" I could even feel the hot button with a .7 ohm build on my kayfun. A dripper at .3 ohms got taken off pretty quickly. Also, using song VTC5's & Song VTC4's. I read somewhere these were designed for AW IMR batteries. This seems really weird to me. "Designed for a certain battery? Are you serious?"

I enjoy tinkering with my mods but this was becoming a hassle. I didn't pay a ton of money to get a crash course in modding. The price sounds great in GBP but when converted to USD...... Man. I paid to avoid this stuff.

It seems bad but I was embarrassed. I spent so much on this mod and my cruddy old random clones were not having this issue. My friends who made fun of me when I purchased it.... I wanted to selfishly have the better mod. I was losing, though. What the hell, right? This is an MCR! A gorgeous high-end mod that has only given me issues. But, when she performs, boy does she perform. It's probably why I've stuck with it for so long and will continue to stick with it. I've heard so many success stories but my story is different. Again, just frustrating. The threads on the mod seem perfect but I don't have anything to compare it to. I also have too much money invested to call it quits. Did I receive a lemon? Maybe, who knows. The percentage is probably small but it would be ignorant to say it isn't possible.

2nd Issue: Contact Pin.

I don't even know if this matters but it seems like the contact pin touching the positive end of the battery could have more surface area. It's just so small and since the screw leading from it is so thin, it seems frail. Maybe it's not getting its flush connection that is needed. It probably doesn't matter. I, as a consumer, would just have better piece of mind eliminating any variables.

Silver Lining-

I've contacted more than a few magnet manufacturer's and finally found a company that will be making some magnets to my specifications needed for the mod. I'm pretty excited about it and If it doesn't fix anything, that's okay. My magnet issues have been completely reoccurring. Either they stick together at the edge, or lose their magnetism strength. I don't know the grade but MCR might want to look into upgrading their magnet design to something thicker and something that can withstand a higher degree. Just in case a hot button occurs.

MCR is growing and new designs are coming out. I'm very excited to see how this company evolves. I want some Hiduron pieces so bad. That metal looks incredibly beautiful.

Feel free to leave thoughts or just discuss MCR mods. I'm cool with either. Just looking to attract some MCR owners who have maybe experienced the same issues or have some tips. Post pictures of your set-up, too. I love to see these!

It's handling perfectly. I sold my SS 18650 and went their Hiduron 18650 w/ flat & hybrid adapter. Also, the new recessed switch is magnificent. Smooth, clean throw and just over all amazing. Best switch I've ever handled. The new switch was fashioned with a spring instead of their 3 magnet set-up. I like it so much better and tested the voltage drop with a multi-meter up to the magnets and it performs better under load with the spring. The quality of threads are spot on and what really keeps me MCR loyal is the amazing customer service. The time difference can be difficult but I try to message them around 2-3am CST and I get a quick reply. They also use DHL shipping and it gets to Texas in about 2-3 days. Just make sure you're home to sign for it though I think you can print a leave delivery form from the DHL website if you want.

I agree. Liam is great to deal with. I had an auto-firing issue with my first MCR when I first got it. Liam helped me to diagnose the problem and sent me out a new delrin insulator for the switch at no charge (fixed the issue). He also included new insulators for my hybrid adapter as the threads had stripped on it.

I just got an MCR 101 SL w/recessed switch and I agree, it's a magnificent switch to operate! I now have a third 101 on the way (SS 18350)...can't wait for it to arrive! :)

I have a 3rd order on it's way, I'm a bit of an MCR fanboy love the look, feel, fit and finish of them and, as has already been mentioned, Liam is great to deal with.

When this order gets here I'll have 6 tubes 2 recessed switches, 2 regular switches, 2 hybrid adapters, 2 flat topcaps and a driptip. .....

Thanks for the information chaps. I've always been of the opinion that regardless of the product after sales service is very important. Looks like these guys know what they're doing.

I'm after a simple, good quality, no nonsense 18350. I've looked on their Facebook page. Lots of information but no price breakdowns so will email them when I'm home from work.

Those are some lovely pieces you have there guys! I love the 3 tube sizes of the brush ss you have alkaiser.

Grrr im interested in your coldur tubes. Im guessing you use the 18350 more than the other. It looks really nice when its worn.

Im very close to ordering mine. Jpcwon has been helping me decide. Im 99% sure im going for a 18350 with ss polished top and recessed button but still undecided on the tube. It will be either brushed coldur or hiduron.

The 18500 came in today so is still in pristine condition, do you want me to take a pic of the Coldur-A 18350 with the polished topcap and recessed button so you can see it?

Or any other configuration of what I have?

No problem my friend!! :)

This is just IMO, but I went with Hiduron over Coldur due to the fact that it has such a unique look. You don't see that look every day! :)

Agreed re Hiduron. Absolutely beautiful. My only issue (and it's not really an issue lol) is that there aren't any Hiduron atomizers to match lol.

I have 2 SS 18500 tubes, 1 Hiduron 18500 tube and 1 Hiduron 18650 tube, 2 hybrid adapters, 1 SS flat cap, 1 Hiduron flat cap, 1 SS 20 mm chamfered cap, 1 SS 16 mm chamfered flat cap and grooved cap, 2 SS recessed switches, 1 Hiduron recessed switch, 2 SS locking switches and 1 Hiduron locking switch with extra SS and Hiduron locking rings.

By far my favorite mod and gets all day err day use. Second favorite are the GP Paps, which also get consistent use. Everything else is relegated to display duty except my epipe mods, which are my night time mods.

Yeah, I'm a fan boy and proud of it because these mods are worth it. Fit and I'm hand feel are second to none.

Thanks mate that would be really helpful. Jp has already shown me a pic of his hiduron with polished top and bottom, if you have time could I see your 18350 coldur with recessed button and ss polished top please.

That went through my mind as well Jp. I'm getting around it by running a kayfun with a clear bell top and a RSM nickel/clear dt. The only thing that might not go is the slightly duller ss bottom of the kayfun but I should be able to live with that.

I switch between my Brushed Hiduron 18650 w/ Recessed Switch & Flat Top or Hybrid Adapter & SS 18650 SMPL Mod by Epic Design Studio. The SMPL is mostly used for going out because of it's small size for an 18650 and I don't mind something bad happening to it compared to my MCR. The MCR actually has less voltage drop and the SMPL allows atty straight to the battery. It's not by much but it still beats it. Just another testament to the quality that MCR pushes out.
