Hi,

I have an Ibaloi mod here: Ibaloi Mod, it has a bottom spring loaded firing button. When I first got the device, I could not set it down unlocked without it firing. I took the switch apart fiddled with the spring a bit and voila!

Weeks go by, I set my mod down unlocked as I have been for awhile now and I come back about 5 minutes later and pick it up. The bottom of the mod is crazy hot, almost burned myself trying to unscrew everything.

The button was stuck pressed in, making connection. Here is the weird part, my mod NEVER fired. The cotton was soaked, it was not burned nor was my rba hot.

This leads to me believe that only my negative pin was making connection with the battery and not the positive post. If that's the case, how in the hell did it fire?

The Sony VTC4 never felt hot, or abnormally hotter then it should after sitting in a hot metal tube and I continue to use that battery, should I not?

I took my spring out, it defiently shorted and melted a bit. I stretched it out, put it back in and it works fine.

Where can I find a suitable replacement hot spring? Should I try the Silver Bullet one from Altsmoke?

The battery may be ok if the voltage didn't drop too low on it (less than 2.5 V). The safe bet is to replace it since it was probably overloaded during the short. If you choose to recharge it again, keep a very close eye on it and make sure it doesn't get too warm. In fact, I'd keep it on a fireproof surface the next time you charge it (if you haven't already).

Definitely replace the hot spring ASAP. It will only collapse once, and you know there already may be a problem with shorting. The next time it will not save the battery.

Definitely figure out where the short is, try to repair or just replace the mod.

Thanks for the input.

Still so confused as to what happened. I set the device down and there was a short somehow, causing my battery to vent and that heat to be released?

I haven't charged the battery yet and I may just toss it at this point.

Unsure of where a short could have come from....However, I am using a Dominator RBA, it has a push lock design, you slide wire in and release and it locks it in.

I am also using twisted 24g kanthal in this RBA and it is quite thick and the connection is not very good. My ohms vary between 0.3 and 0.5 on it depending on if I bumped it or something.

Perhaps I should stop messing around with my coil when its not tightened all the way down. Could that have caused my short? I really don't think my mod caused the short.

The battery vented? That means it is destroyed.

If there was a short in the atty, it would have gotten hot.

You have a short somewhere somehow. It is impossible to pinpoint it from reading your posts unless someone else has this exact mod and has a good idea of potential causes. It seems this is an authentic mod, so you could contact the manufacturer and ask them.

In the future, you have to be very diligent about checking for and eliminating shorts. Some mechs don't even have a hot spring, so it is very much like "playing with fire". They are not inherently dangerous, but one mistake and you can do serious damage with the massive amount of current these lithium batteries can put out. Just be careful.

I would LOVE to get some magnets for this device, just no idea which ones to use.

I installed magents in my friends nemesis clone, super easy to do.....Should I just maybe pick some up from a few vendors and see if they fire?

Take measurements, search Amazon for Neodymium Magnets or Rare Earth Magnets.
