I couldn't find a mech mod specific area, if there is one or even a good thread please share!

First order of safety is Ohms Law, I understand that. I still would like another safety feature in case I screw something up. So I wonder what is better:
<> Buying protected IMR batteries for my mech mod
<> Buying a mod fuse/VW chip so I can use the same IMR batteries I have for my VAMO

Where are some good places with good prices to find the mod fuses?

Does button top vs flat top batteries make any difference in a mech mod?

Lavafire Rocket is what I ordered if you need to know.

I don't think there are any protected IMR batteries, but I could be wrong. Make sure that the batteries are actually IMR or hybrid chemistry, AND high drain, preferably 30 amps. Both fuses and kicks exist, but I don't think either of those can handle the wattages that subohm coils put out (could be wrong again).

I dont use protected batteries, the one time I did try to run protected batteries the mod wouldnt fire.

Just make sure you get authentic quality IMR or MNKE batteries and always test the resistance of your atomizer before putting it on the mod. Always stay below 75% of the max amp ratings of the batteries.

Check out RTD vapors, they are great people and the only place I trust to buy authentic AW/Efest batteries.

IMHO, there is no reason to use protected ICR batteries with the advent of modern day IMR and hybrid safe-chemistry batteries that are now available to us.

ICR (cobalt li-ion) batteries require protective circuits because they are a voltatile (as in flamable) chemistry. Push them too hard and they will vent with flames or explode. I know, it happened to me.

IMR (li-mn) batteries don't require protection because the chemistry is safer. These are also high drain batteries which regulated mods need for their pulse regulation circuits. Mechanical mods using a Kick and RBA's also require using a high drain batteries.

Hybrid batteries are a mix of the above chemistries to allow them to be safer chemistry, high drain, and to have extended battery time.

There's no such thing as "protected IMR" batteries. ICR batteries are protected. IMR batteries are un-protected because they use safer chemistry.

:blink:Either I'm confused or you are. Mod fuses and VW chip (a Kick?) are two different things.

Mod fuses are used in the battery compartment to prevent battery short circuits. A Kick provides voltage regulation in a mechanical mod.

Vapesafe Fuse.jpg Mod fuses are used on the negative end of a battery.

Silver Bullet and Kick.jpg The Kick is used on the positive end of a battery.

Generally not.

Rock on Baditude that is a great deal of help. Answered what I was asking perfectly.

The fuse and kick I know are different but I did think the kick had a fuse built in. Will definitely be buying a fuse. I also thought RTD had protected protected IMRs but I probably was looking at it wrong.
