If your not into trying temperature control then I'd just recommend a sigelei 150w, the older and cheaper version doesn't have tc.
Sigelei 150W Watt Box Mod - Black, Blue, Red and Silver $76 isn't too bad.

If you used to how a mech hits, your going to want something that can do 100w at max and use it at about 60w-80w for a similar feel as a mech. I'm saying your probably going to want something that can do over 50watts and can probably hold 2 batteries for better battery life but if that doesn't bother you there are a good amount of single 18650's that do 75 watts.

Like the sigelei 75w tc and a ipvd2 75w tc. These have normal power mode so you can still use kanthal/nichrome instead of using nickel/titanium with the temp mode. Batter sag on these single 18650's will get annoying. When the battery is about half way charged, using a build at 0.5 ohms at 45watts, it will act like the battery is almost dead.

50w may be just a touch underpowered. Personally, I find that I tend to set my power so that the output voltage is right around 4.1-4.2v. If you like to vape 0.3 ohm coils, I'd recommend going with something capable of 75+ watts.

Just a quick background, I did use mech mods exclusively for the better part of the past 2+ years (perhaps that's why my tendency is to vape around 4.2v). I recently made the switch to regulated because I don't see the point of using a mech anymore: I can get the same power and vape experience as a mech, but with more consistency throughout the battery life, and the added protection of continuously monitoring the battery, build, mod temperature, etc.
