watts are a measure that makes sense... kinda like looking at a 20W lite bulb and a 250W lite bulb... you can tell the difference in output :)

Not to make it any more confusing... :nun:

Watts make sense in one sense but not in another. As a measure of heat energy applied to something* it makes sense. As this something differs, it makes less sense. Watts are also just the sum of two other parts. Those two parts being individually adjustable. The watt part is not adjustable by itself. We don't do anything with watts. We just get them.

I've said that watts is the end result. But that is really a lie. The end result is watts minus losses divided by applicable area/mass minus any cooling effect. Hence the watts we calculate means even less than we tend to give them credit for.

As for lightbulbs, we don't care too much about how they produce their watts. If this was a light bulb rebuilding forum, we'd be discussing how lumens matter more than watts. And how you can run 200 watts through a coat hanger-thick wire and still get less light than a factory 20w bulb.

*this something being a variable amount of variable metal cooled by variable amount of airflow

From reading your posts, it sounds like you have been studying up on this and are aware of the safety issues, so kudos to you. As for when the battery is getting too low, I was very concerned about over-discharging the batteries when I got my first mechanical mod. Best advice is the use a multi-meter (which can be had for very little money) and check the battery occasionally as you vape. This gives you a feel for how fast you're draining the battery and how long you can go. It's a gradual change, but the vape does diminish as the battery voltage drops, but it's not like all the sudden things change, so it's not that easy to estimate without a meter.

I now know that it's time to change the battery when I've gone through about 3 or 4 ml of liquid. I can pretty much just change out / charge batteries at the end of the day. There's no crime in recharging the battery early, I often recharge mine at 3.9 volts or more.

look at the date the thread was posted though, january of 2015 =x. old news buddy

But, "new" news to me and I really should not be looking. Because I do have 2 American made Legacy that will last longer than me :) For those that don't know, the Legacy is "pictured" in my Avatar and also is no longer being made, unfortunately. :(

And it does appear that some product is still available.

I was sad when he closed shop, the legacy is a legend.
Supert did themselves in I think. Can't support a company that rarely has stock.

As for the op, I was a regulated vapor for a long time, even argued with the mech users relentlessly. Then I finally got a good set up and it clicked. In the earlier days it was easy to get mechs that didn't perform worth a darn, and then your opinion is they suck.

Now its all I use. If going with a modest setup once you find the right balance of wire gauge, resistance, coil etc its just a different vape with no electronics in the way interfering and conditioning the current.

With my work mod I fill up the tank, pop in a battery and good to go most of the day. So simple its stupid. And since I still use silica, I don't even change wicks for several weeks, just a quick rinse and burn every 2 weeks or so.

i am a strange one. kanthal is so dirt cheap I change my coil setup on a daily basis, sometimes even a couple times a day when im bored. just got big bags of cotton and kanthal everywhere. a couple days ago I got so bored that I took one of my 50' spools of kanthal, and just went to town creating 0.3ohm coils. now I have 50' worth of precoiled coils. There is still about 1000' of different gauges of kanthal in one of my boxes though :w00t: what to do with that hmm..., maybe ill make 100' of clapton coil and just cut em and put em in tubes.

Yeah i definitely am trying to study up and learn everything possible. I dont want to mess around with these things with a preggers wife at home. These are strong batteries after all. I hear stories after stories of them shooting across the room on people who werent cautious or fires. Im all set with that. Ill only be dripping when im home at night so ill more than likely just charge my battery every night or every other night depending on how much i drip. Again, just to be on the safe side... why not? If anything it promotes longer battery life because theres less stress and drain, right?

Education goes a long way, in over 4 years I still have yet to experience an issue with batteries, came close a few times but knowing what to do made all the difference.
learning the ins and outs before doing something pays off 10 fold, and has made vaping an enjoyable carefree experience
