So I jumped from Egos to mechanical mods in my first two weeks of vaping. My setup is a Bagua clone with an Igo-L, 28ga kanthal and silica wick. I'm about ready to give up on building my own coils. After building several coils in the 1.5 to 2.5 ohm range and trying to use them my experience has been the same with all of them. They seem to be scorching my juice. No matter what I try I get that burned taste. Should I switch to cotton?

I drip with an IGO-W and the only time I get a burned taste is when I let the wick get too dry or when I use a particular juice that is prone to burning regardless of atomizer. My first thought was that your resistance was too low but that doesn't appear to be true. I only use cotton and that wouldn't cost anything for you to try. Trying a different juice would be a good experiment as well.

Im not in any way experienced enough to answer this, but i heard that sometimes people have a coming and going perception of burnt taste that will go away after some time (and maybe come back and go again).
Did you experienced the burnt taste from the beginning of using the Igo-L?

More obvious is to widen the space between the silica and the coils a bit (silica should be fairly lose inside the coil).
Secondly: try boiling the silica in hot water 1-2 times and let it dry, it could be that you taste the silica itself. That way you might get rid of silicas own flavor.

Please keep in mind that im no pro.

A picture of your coil might help us understand where the problem lies. A hot spot can cause this. Another thing to check is whether the resistance reading is accurate - what device are you checking it with? It takes a lot of wraps to get 2.5 ohms with 28 gauge - how many are you using?

I'm using 4ish inches with 7 to 8 wraps

I drip with the igo-w as well and doing a 4/3 wrap with 28g 1ohm. Had silica wick with this set up and it was working fine only bad thing is you cant get alot of juice on it. Try the organic cotton, I have that now and holds more juice and I have not had a burnt taste. I wrap the coil, put it in the hole and tighten, pulse it and then throw the cotton in.
