I do 12 wraps around a standard sewing needle (Dual Coil). A straight pin works even better (The needle with the ball on the end).

It puts it right at .35 Ohm every time.

I would be kind of nervous to not have a Ohm checker (I use my Vamo), not really to check my Ohms (It turns out to be the same every time, unless I try to build a different coil), but more to check for shorts.

You definitely don’t want shorts with a mechanical

EDIT: BTW I'm using 28 Gauge Kanthal

Ok I didn't have much time to mess with it this weekend, but when I did I did a 4/5 wrap, dual coil. Reading .68ohms and I'm getting a really harsh hit with not much vapor. Do I need to drill my air holes out?

Are you using Cotton or Silica? Silica seems to give a really nasty taste at high amps/watts. I run a .35 Ohm coil with a Cotton bed, and as long as the cotton is properly saturated I get no harsh hits.

I'm using boiled organic cotton with 28g wire (I assume it's kanthal, just didn't say on the package) I saturated it pretty good. I have an ohm meter now, I waited till I got it before doing any builds.

Oh yeah I forgot you also get a burnt taste is some of coil is not touching the cotton (Hot Spots). Make sure all your coil is touching the cotton evenly

You can test this by firing your coil and looking to see if any of your coil turns red. If a part of your coil turns red, push the coil down into the cotton more (Assuming your using a cotton bed).

So with a cotton bed you aren't actually threading the cotton through the coil?

Ok, I've got it working decent. 5/6 wraps dual coil. But I only get 4 or 5 good hits then they get dry/ burnt and I have to add more juice. Is that normal? .465ohms

I put my cotton through the coil... (28ga w/9 wraps on 3/32 drill bit .8ohms) I usually get 15-20 good rips before I need to add juice. Some juices do seem to burn faster though.
