Hi guys, would like to ask if anyone knows where to get mechanical service like drilling and such? I was trying to get rid of my Stormrider but no luck. So i am thinking of modding it since it is a good atty and i am a sub ohm vaper. The airhole in Stormrider is too small to get optimal vaping under subohm. I am thinking making the hole larger to 2mm and create another 2mm hole for dual coil set up. Please let me know if you know anyone who can do the job or maybe I can do it myself (hope my D&T skills has not rusted) if can borrow lathe and mill. Thanks.

Try those jewellery or goldsmith shops, check particularly for those with workstation tables. They sure have those tiny drills, ask them for a favour to drill the holes, most of the time they will oblige.

Great idea! Or those small machining workshop, they might have small drills

Thanks for the replies guys, however i need something to hold the top cap and make a hole something this diagram.

SS top cap drawing.jpg

Basicall green is current air hole, blue is what i am trying to achieve not red because it will destroy top cap. So i dont think electric drill will do the job as my hand might not be able to hold it secure enough to make new hole as shown.

I don't know much about rba/RDAs, but from the pictures of the Stormrider I have just Googled, the tool you should be looking for is a hobby drill or pin vise.

If you had one of these you would be able to finish the job in a matter of minutes.

Failing which, as other posters have mentioned, a neighbourhood jewellery or watch shop should have one or an equivalent tool which will get the job done.

Maybe if you get your watch strap or batteries changed Uncle can do you a solid on the atty. Idk. Or you could just ask - never hurt.

ed: Please be careful if you're attempting to enlarge the hole with a pair of scissors, especially if you'll be holding on to the atty with your non-dominant hand...

I believe what you're trying to do here is to enlarge the hole?

How tight are the tolerances now? I might be able to do as I'm a student currently. I have ready access to industrial lathes, drills, vices and tools like that. I also have experience in machining (trained in aerospace industry) of 0.3mm tolerance.

Given the right details, I might be able to lend a hand. :)
But it might be at your own discernment as I am not verified yet (it's touchy, I know) and I'm not a professional after all.

Thanks sig, I am hoping to achieve 2mm - 2.5mm each holes. I do have a pin-vice at my disposal but its not as straight forward as it is. If i just want to enlarge the airhole like what i did on my rsst then its no big deal but to re position the hole center point it's not easy without something to hold it securely in place or risk damaging the top cap. Anyway, i will try to sell it off first, if no luck by next week, i will ask for your help.

No problem. I my school has V-clamps (grooved machine vice) that allows us to clamp on tubes easily. Repositioning is not an issue, but I'll need exact location of the hole center and hole size.

Funny. I'm no vet. But elbow grease will do the job 90% of the time, if you don't have the equipment. We're just too coddled. Think, think, think, improvise, improvise, improvise!

Sad state of our education. Yes, I'm also a " beneficiary" of our education, but I'm trying to correct that.

Yes, it is quite sad to see that local education has only managed to lend itself to purposes other than what was intended! We are, more often than not, required to adapt and modify our approaches because of so many restrictions. How many machinists are available for such tasks? How convenient are they to locate and approach? I can barely answer that.

That aside, elbow grease can solve most mechanical problems. Get a set of drill bits that'll fit your purpose, along with a center punch. Since the material isn't thick, using a tap wrench (those you use for tapping holes, not your regular house tap wrench) on the drill bit should be easy enough.

I did try to diy this, but without proper tools it's not an easy task. To begin with, i don't even have a hammer or tap wrench. I am just an IT professional with limited screw driver set. I did thought about creating a small pilot hole but how am i going to make one when its already drilled out by that 1.3mm hole. My guess, if i want 2.5mm hole max, center point will be at 1.25mm which has been taken by that 1.3mm hole?

To add to this, i can probably filled this hole with solder and make hole else where but storm rider has a screwed on top cap rather than what we have in rsst which can be adjusted and hold in place by orings. Maybe i dont explain myself clear enough to let you guys know what i am trying to achieve.

To buy tools for this sole purpose will be a waste of money aint it? That is why i did ask if i can borrow this equipment and DIY myself. I am not trying to bring anyone down here and i am aware that people did like to have an easy way out but believe me, i did give a thought about how to do this and with my limited expertise in mechanical this is what i came out with from my D&T days.

To wrap this up, maybe some people are stronger in mechanical some in others. I can cook many nice dishes, debone chicken or fillet a life fish, while others prefer to buy it ready. I think rather than giving an un constructive remarks, it will be better to give ideas thats where we can learn and improve ourself. Again, not that i am trying to say whose wrong or right just stating my thought and i hold no grudge to anyone. Peace.

No offense and none taken. :)
There's many ways to do things, albeit quite a few are tough and probably not worth the trouble.

Let me know if you need my help. I have plenty of tools available and can probably lend a hand.
Who knows, I might use some spare time to make a brass drip tip.

You can probably make a brass mod yourself sig, with all those tools you have, cant imagine possibilities you have there.

Thanks man. I have plenty of things to make now. Plenty on my list.
I bought some materials to make lanyard beads, and some rings. All with Glow-in-the-dark (google moonglow acrylic). Also intending to make a knife or two, and possibly some flashlight mods. I'm considering something less time consuming for now. But sure, I'll probably make a mod and use some aftermarket bottom and top cap. I can probably groove the mod tube according to what people might like. :)
