Tex, Spider, you have lovely Greys. Here's Mike:

The last two are a new game of his. I gave him a toy ball, and he started trying to stand on it. He starts out with one foot on the ball, then puts his beak down for balance while he lifts the other foot up, then lifts up his head and wobbles a bit before falling off.

I'm trying to get better pics of him, and hopefully a video of him balancing on the ball, but he HATES the camera, and attacks it if he sees me holding it, so I have to keep it out of his sight. Makes it a bit of a challenge. ;)

Awww to cute and if you can get a video of Mike balancing on the ball I'd love to see it.

I'm trying, but I don't want to push him too hard, and make him associate his ball trick with the HATED camera. It could give him a paranoia complex. :D So, give me time. The day I took those he was starting to get a bit more comfortable with it, but I'm giving him a break for a couple days before I try again.

He's Ok with the camera so long as I'm not holding it, so I'll also try to include him more often in my reviews, and maybe he'll get over it.

Could ya give us a video of you interacting with him? Then we could have our two favorite stars together in the same shot. It might also distract him from the camera and take you out from behind the doggone thing so you don't look like some kind of Cyborg to him. He might see it as a regular play session as opposed to seeing some thing attach itself to your face while you try to coax him to act normal.

I am really not into birds at all, but I was turned on to parrots by a Macaw named Roman. They are very intelligent and have some really interesting personalities. I am fascinated by parrots. Other "talking" birds are cute and fun for five minutes, but parrots are so much more than the others. They can extract meaning from words and can create meaningful language. They can actually use a form of grammar. They do not just imitate what they hear, they learn it and use it meaningfully.

True. Or at least, they CAN learn to use it meaningfully if they are taught. Mike doens't know many phrases, but he mostly uses them appropriatly.

He says "Good Morning" when he wants to be uncovered in the morning, and "Say Goodnight" when he is tired and wants to be covered up. He says "Come Here" and "Step Up" when he wants me to go over and pick him up. He says "Hello" when the phone rings and while I'm talking on it. If he's been startled by something or after being punished he will comfort himself by saying "It's OK."

He knows how to use his name in combination with all of those, like "Say goodnight, Mike," or "It's OK, Mike." (which is heartbreakingly cute in the soft hurt-feelings tone he uses.)

And he understands tone of voice VERY well, sounding happy, angry, sarcastic, demanding as appropriate. Like if I don't answer the phone he goes from a questioning tone of voice, "Hello?" To a demanding, "Hello!" And if I still don't answer he sarcastically says, "Hellll-ooooooo!"

His favorite phrase, though, is "Gimme a kiss!" It's the only one he will say on command, and perhaps because I taught it as a command-trick-reward behaviour, it's the one he's chosen to use whenever he wants something he doesn't have words for.

The problem is since he uses it whenever he wants ANYthing, I never know what the hell he wants, so he gets more and more frustrated and "Gimmie a kiss," turns from a cute little peading tone, to an insisting tone, to a harsh demanding tone, to an outright angry "GIMMIE A KISS!!"

The only thing I know is he does NOT really want a kiss... :D

I'm really glad my colege roommates never succeeded in teaching him to swear!

Our pal Squash. He's not so much angry about the too small sweater, as he is about having his picture taken. Hates it!

I am into tropical planted aquariums. Here is a shot of my tank (29 gallon, high tech, CO2 injected) from a year ago:

I have a journal on another forum, but I haven't updated it since last April

BiscuitSlayer's 29 - Updated 4.1.08 -Welcome to the Jungle - (56K Unfriendly)

I also adopted a couple of Bengal mix kittens last summer. They are quite a bit bigger than the photos since they aren't little kittens anymore:

Boots is actually getting pretty fat these days whereas Sneakers is a lean mean goofball.

I once had a little sealed aquatic habitat I found at Merril's drug store. It was about a 9 inch cube with a couple little "plants" that shed spores that grew into tiny jellyfish, and a little goldfish of some sort that ate the spores and jellyfish. Didn't last a month of course. I always wanted a better version of it though.

I finally found just the right moment for that!

I grew up with dogs, cats, rabbits, Guinea pigs, a tortoise and budgies. ...but the sadness of loosing pets has put me off having anymore.....I get far too emotionally attached. The last one I had was a very feral stray cat that decided he liked me....and my heart was broken when he went missing and I eventually found his body close to a Fox's nest. The Fox had cubs and I assume there must have been a fight.
