Don't remember exactly where I got mine, I think it was one stop DIY... anyway I dissolved my first tests with it in alcohol, it goes fast, but then made the full bottle with PG instead. I did it the same way, fill a bottle with crystals then fill up with PG. It takes a little longer to dissolve but only about 20 minutes when warmed up a bit. It's easier for me to control drops of PG than the thin alcohol solution (plus PG is way cheaper here and it won't evaporate as much over time). It won't work in VG though.

Here is a place also:
Menthol Crystals | Greenals

Also side note: you can get a higher concentration with PGA (Everclear) than PG, to high of a concentration in PG and the menthol will re-crystalize in the bottle, then you will have to reheat it. I have been making it the same way in PGA for 3 years and never had an issue with evaporation or re-crystalization.

If done the way I explained, about 80% of the concentrate is disolved menthol crystals, 20% is alcohol. But you will never have to reheat the bottle to remelt the menthol in PG, been there done that.

Good point about recrystallizing. From that other thread you can see Dan knows more than I do about menthol in alcohol for sure! My PG solution is a lower concentration: about 50/50*. I'm still working in very small test batches, so a super-concentrate would make it harder for me to control amounts of menthol going into a 1-3ml test mix.

* by weight, and at a guess. I wasn't worried about too much precision with this one.

Thanks Dan !!!

I'm back on the PGA method. When you fill the container with the crystals, do you grind them up first? or drop them in whole?

I usually put them in a ziplock freezer bag and use a rolling pin to crush them, then fill up the container to the dop and tap the bottle on the counter until it settles and no more can be added. Then begin slowly adding the PGA. The crystals will disolve quickly. Keep adding PGA untill all the crystals are saturated and no more PGA can be added. Then cap and shake.
