Menthol...I have PG, VG, and menthol crystals, but something is missing

I've ordered in the past from several vendors their menthol flavors..I actually liked them all equally well. I decided to DIY. I have PG, VG, and the menthol crystals. It's not a question as to whether or not I need to add more or less crystals, but something is missing from the vape I make; I can't describe it, but it's something. Does anyone have any idea what it could be in the menthol mixes (from the vendors) OTHER than PG, VG and Menthol Crystals???

I like a just a touch of vanilla and mint in my menthol. Yum!

I'll also take a pre-made menthol and add my menthol drops (made with PGA) to jazz it up. Way easier! I buy a big 4oz bottle of menthol Doubler (zero nic) from TastyVapor. I don't mess with DIY menthol much now... just add some drops to the TV liquid (I like menthol to blow my head off, ha) and add my own high nic menthol to the doubler. Inexpensive and great flavor.

This might sound like a stupid question, but your not trying to dissolve the menthol crystals directly into the PG/VG, right?

Your supposed to dissolve it in a PGA before adding it to your mix.

Also, don't drop menthol juice directly into a cart. Like an idiot I put two drops of my menthol drops into my cart (cart holds a little under a ml) and it was the most disgusting thing I ever vaped. The first hit or two was kind of cool, kind of like vaping a vicks inhaler, but after that it made my stomach turn. I actually haven't vaped menthol since.

How about tobacco flavoring?

Seems like a menthol ejuice is supposed to taste like a menthol analog, therefore it would also have tobacco flavoring in it.

You might experiment with Virginia or Kent ejuice as a base and adding menthol to it to see how it tastes. If this works for you, check out the FlavourArt tobacco flavors from Happy Vaper or Liberty Flights (US site) for DIY mixing. Desert Ship or Mellow Sunset should be mild and work well.

With that in mind, I agree that Mellow Sunset is mild (and fast becoming my go-to vape), but for me the Desert Ship has to be in the 0.10% range (that's 1/10 of one percent, not the recommended 1% starting point) else it's completely overpowering and slightly nauseating for me. Definitely not "mild" to my taste.

If planning to mix menthol with tobacco flavors, I'd recommend following the KISS principle and find a tobacco blend and strength that's right for you first, then add menthol.

12 drops of Latakia
4 drops of Dark Vapure

...from the 3ml Happy Vaper bottles,
in 3.0ml of base.

I thought it was barely strong enough.

Yes. I had read where menthol crystals will dissolve in pure PG and they do. I just crush some crystals in PG and it dissolved quite well. I mean, when I'm vaping, I def taste menthol, but something is missing big time. Are you saying this could be why?

That is the menthol recipe I've been using since I started vaping. That makes an excellent menthol base. I also add JC Tennessee Cured to my juice mix.
For about 30mls this is what I use

8 mls 36mg unflavored nic juice
17 mls PG VG (70% PG 30% VG)
3 mls JC Tennesee Cured or any tobacco ejuice I have on hand
3 mls menthol base

Now we're talking....try adding 4 or 5 drops of Desert ship, that should wake it up

Agree with the above poster about a little tobacco flavoring. My wife was a newport analog smoker and we couldn't find anything close until we used menthol crystals dissolved in pg, added vg, nic juice and tobacco flavor(from TV tobacco doubler flavor). As close to an analog as we could come.

Where do you get these tobacco and menthol doublers? I looked at one site someone mentioned and saw the doublers they had but there were no menthol or tobacco doublers listen on their site at all

Try some ethyl maltol. I have no idea what it would do, but I'd like someone to try it other than me, and you seem adventurous.

I dunno about that. I wonder if thats what is missing? I wonder if that is a "key ingredient" in the premixed menthol flavor.

I'm one of the lucky ones I guess, even when I smoked 2 packs/day Pall Mall I never lost my sense of smell/taste.

A real problem for me are people who wear colognes and perfumes. What's a perfectly acceptable amount of scent for most people can overwhelm me, even to the point of nausea and all the physical side-effects it brings

I only wish I had better odor/taste memory, then I could find a lucrative job as a taster for wineries, distilleries, food companies, etc.
