I like strong menthol flavors and I mixed 1 gram of menthol crystal with 10 ml of juice base to start out. It had a decent menthol hit, but leaves a slight bitter aftertaste. I heard lemon juice or vinegar can alleviate this, is that true? In addition, won't lemon juice "go bad" after awhile and ruin the juice? Thanks

The lemon and vinegar are acid and they should be fine. You might try a little (a few drops to 1%) em to smooth out the menthol. It is also possible that it is a bit to strong. I know.. there is no such thing as too much menthol..until you have too much. If you want more "whoosh" but the strength needs to drop for flavor you can try adding a couple of drops of Koolada for more whoosh without added flavor.

I know that some of the "super strong" menthol flavors are bolstered by other strong mints like wintergreen and spearmint. Be warned though that wintergreen may kill tanks. That said I really love wintergreen and menthol personally.

I use this mix as my e-juice, 1 gram of menthol crystal mixed with 10ml of 80/20 flavorless juice.

That would be pretty strong alright. Though I actually got a drop of menthol premixed flavoring on my hand tonight and it wasn't half so dire as some flavorings can be taste wise. And I have seen a recipe that has a higher percentage of menthol than you mixed so it isn't that for out there to go that strong. But, since your getting a bitter taste I would suggest either a little em, a drop of lemon juice or cider vinegar or cutting it a bit more with liquid.

I'd rather just mix menthol crystals directly to my juice rather than making a flavor solution first.

That's a lot of menthol in 10mls of juice.. I love love menthol and mix 1/2 teaspoon to 10mls pg to make my menthol flavoring, which is about what your using in 10mls of final juice. Try mixing it up as a flavoring and using koolada to boost it up like southern said..

I use 7% menthol and 10% koolada in my menthol adv

If you think that is strong I mix Menthol Crystals 50/50 (per instructions).

DUDE!!! That's a 10% solution of MENTHOL (aka 100mg/ml), that's a flavor base, not a vapable juice! try .1g of menthol to your 10ml. Better yet make a 50% solution by mixing 10g menthol and 10ml pg (not really a 50% solution, but close enough). Add a few drops of that to your finished juice.

for a sweetener, do not add sugar, will clog the atty and burn, aspartame is bitter and causes high blood pressure, try EM or get a sweetener (usually Sucralose) from one of the DIY suppliers, but you really shouldn't need it, the bitterness is because of the ungodly level of menthol you are using...

What do you guys think of adding sweetener like sugar or aspartame to the juice?

Sugar is going to burn onto your coils and it will be ugly fast. Aspartame is also not a popular choice. On the other hand if you can find some sucralose without fillers, or stevia (though I don't just love the flavor) without fillers those are commonly used. Sucralose is what is in splenda but the splenda powder has gunk in it.

I have a sort of funny story. I bought some really cheapo gum today and while it says peppermint the upfront flavor in it is menthol that is so strong it is bitter at first. I could not help but think of you when that menthol hit me.

... but would like to know the theory, thanks

Same theory for beer at the dawn of man. Somebody tried it, it worked, the word was spread, others did the same and found it worked and told you. Just the scientific method of observation...the reasons why it works have been debated, but we lack the inclination and funding to determine if any of the theories holds up under a true test.

You're thought that it lowers the pH, "...due to the acid", is as good as any of the theories.

Yeah as others have said, you're vaping a concentrate. The concentrate you made should be mixed with nicotine, PG, and VG at your desired ratios (example - 50/50 PG/VG at 12mg nicotine with 10% of your menthol concentrate). Vaping it straight is like ordering flavors from TFA and vaping those straight. Its bound to taste wayy too strong and mess with your tastebuds.
