It’s clear that many of the ladies here are wonderful and creative chefs. I’m not. So, I started thinking about times where things didn’t go quite so well…

In particular there’s one “meal” from about 20 years ago that still sticks in my mind. In an attempt to be creative with some fish that had been thawed and needed to be cooked, my starter-DH decided that fish spaghetti would work….seemed sort of a reasonable idea since we were young and I was less wise than I am now. (I’m at least wise enough to know that I should not ever, ever be part of experiments that involve attempting to be creative with food).

So, the first inkling that there might be something wrong was when we started cooking the fish….it was just a teensy bit strong. But we soldiered on bravely….hoping that enough garlic and tomato sauce would take care of that. Yep, that was the second mistake. Traditional spaghetti sauce with fish as a base

But, ever optimistic, we hoped it would cook down. To what I don’t know… But by this time we’d gone too far to back out. We boiled some spaghetti, made garlic bread and set the table. Then it was time. We ladled the “sauce” onto the spaghetti….we each bravely tried a bite.
 It was horrendous. Even the dog wouldn’t eat it. We ended up having to throw away the pan it was cooked it. Who knew that stuff would permeate Teflon. :glare:

Tell us about worst or strangest meal that you’ve ever had, or your best menu experiment…

One of the rare times Steve has ever made dinner ! Spaghetti with sausage ! He even simmered it for a half hour...(Jar sauce-not homemade)...Served it up, sat down to eat..........

..........Eeeeeeeeewwwwwww !!!!

The sausage.........was Hilshire Farms Smoked Kielbasa !!!!

Quite......nasty !!!!!!!! Neither of us could eat it !!

Lol oh dear on both the fish and kielbasa spaghetti!

Years ago, when the boys were just toddlers, the hubby was trying to make meatloaf after one of my surgeries. He only had one pound of ground beef for a two pound recipe, so he decided to replace the other pound with country style sausage. Unfortunately he also forgot a portion of the ground beef in the microwave where he had been defrosting it. So, now he had about a half a pound of ground beef to a pound of sausage with the spices for two pounds of meatloaf. That was absolutely the worst meatloaf ever! Like CES said, even the dog wouldn't eat it.

Lets see...I once tried to boil a whole potfull of raw rice for dinner. Nobody told me it swelled..talk about a mess!
My meatloaf was so bad that we joked about using it as bricks! I made my first pot of homemade soup..something went wrong and my hubby got food posioning (I was P.G. so I didn't eat it.) It's ok though..he was my first hubby and deserved it! LOL
He was the one who brought home frog legs for me to cook. I refused and threw out the pan he cooked those things in!

But my spaghetti is to die for! :)

I am sure I have made several things that my family has not really liked to well...LOL Most of the time I burn dinner  I just have the timing I used to, maybe that's an age thing?

Hey Fudgey! I guess we have the "Blackened" thing down pat.
Once when my son was little..for those of you who met him at the Fl. meet at Gaspars..yes he was a little guy at one time! Anyway we went to a drugstore diner (remember those?) and he ordered grilled cheese. The waitress brings it out and he took one look at it and told the waitress to take it back it was too rare! She brought it back later..properly well done..black! He was happy.

I love to cook...I just don't like grocery shopping for the ingredients. Presents a problem doesn't it. LOL

Ummmmm......just a little one....LOL

Good story Fudgey but I got the biggest laugh out of your laughing icon. Where the heck did you get that? I love it!

Right here http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library-annex/94674-bumps-animated-icons.html

My mom's cooking has improved a great deal since i was a kid....but my lack of ability to make food with adequate flavor might be genetic

rkayw, someone else could do the shopping as a trade off for gettng fed?

It took me about 20 years to figure out that stuff can have flavor to it, it just needs a little help....LOL

My mom was a good cook but I wasn't interested in it and she never encouraged us kids to learn. I still hate to cook. The funnies disaster I can think of at the moment was when I was in high school in home ec. I think they've replaced home ec with PC technology now. Anyway, we were making snicker doodle cookies and instead of using xx tablespoons of sugar, I used salt. oooooweeee that was nasty. Needless to say I flunked snicker doodles. :(
