So I've been stalking around this forum quite a bit in the last week or so and finally decided to take the plunge and join. My husband and I are planning to start vaping in the near future, my head is still spinning from all the options and choices out on the market. Seems like once you start to get a grasp on the devices side of things then you jump head first into an ocean of juicey choices :)

A bit of background. Both myself and my husband are smokers, been smoking longer in our lives than we haven't smoked. A few years ago we switched from buying conventional cigarettes to rolling our own cigarettes with an 'automatic' rolling machine. We also use pipe tobacco with our tubes since the cigarette tax doesn't seem to effect pipe tobacco. It only costs us $9 a carton for cigarettes how we are currently doing it. I really want to quit smoking cigarettes, to do so I feel my husband needs to also. He's made it pretty clear he has no interest in quitting smoking but it open to vaping instead. I'm okay with this and feel that at least its a move in the right direction anyway.

We started experimenting with several different disposables, but we both know that is NOT the route that we want to go. For one the cost is just way more than what we are currently spending.

Anyway, here's my situation currently. Recently placed an order for several 5ml bottles of juice from ECblends. After much combing the world wide web and this forum we've decided to go with Halo Tritons. I ordered my husband's starter kit two days ago. Its nice they are pretty close to us so his Triton will be here Monday. I kind of want to jump head first into the Tritons also, but I have some reservations for myself. This is where it comes down to needing advice. My husband is a buy it and use it like it is kind of person, he really has no interest in changing things from the original. Myself, on the other hand, want to be able to have options. I'm concerned about the threading on the Triton, being somewhat proprietary. I know you can get adapters, but it seems that they aren't always the prettiest things. Really the threading is a BIG factor for me not committing to ordering my own Triton. Also something to take into consideration is the cost of replacement coils, Triton coils are going to be $12.50 for a replacement pack of 5 coils. I know other replacement coils can be more reasonably priced. I want to want to use the Triton, but the reality of it is that I really just don't think they are going to have enough options to please me.

So here's what I'd like. Something with 510 threading so I have more customization options available to me. I think I'd prefer to go with a glass tank, though for no particular reason. Something with a good battery life, though I have the availability to charge while at work. I work by myself at a small mom and pop's computer shop repairing and building computers. I'd like to try to stay in the $70 and under range for a double starter kit. Not really sure as far as bottle coil vs top coil. Is there a difference between 510 threading and ego threading? Something pretty, not typically a girly girl but I'd still like a pretty machine.

Any idea for me?

Welcome!

If you like the look of the triton, but want 510, I'd probably recommend an ego style. Probably an ego twist or a vision spinner. For a glass tank, the protank mini would be a good option. You can get heads for $5.96/5 pack at discount Vapers. The heads also fit the evod clearo izers, which are plastic, but very nice. Those are both bottom coil. I don't know what's available in glass for a top coil. Hopefully someone else can give a suggestion for that.

MM and BB! Welcome to ECF.

If it were me, I don't have any experience with Halo. I too looked at them when I started, but went a different direction. I would recommend what I started with which was a Kanger Evod kit. I would also say a twist model will be better than just a standard battery. I did not have a twist, but yesterday I moved on to a mod setup. The Kanger line is reasonably priced, easy to find, and coils are cheap. I just got 5 for $6. You can get even more saving by rebuilding the coils, to which there are MANY guides, videos, and step by steps available. The ego style battery can accept multiple style tanks, cartos, etc. This is why I recommend a twist model. Depending on the tank, you may yeild better result with a higher voltage then 3.7. The juice you select could also possibly benefit from higher voltage.

I hope this helps you a bit.

I, personally, like the Itaste VV or the ego style batteries. 510 connection makes finding tanks and clearo's and atty's easier than other connections(you will need an adapter if you want to get an 808 and want to use a 510 threaded tank).

for the tank I recommend a vision vivi nova, been using them for a very long time now and they last if you take care of them properly. I, along with a seemingly large amount of people, have had issues with kangar lately so I can't say I would recommend a PT2.

-Vision vivi nova's
-iclear 16s are great
-aspire BCC tanks are great if you dont mind keeping the juice at least half way full in the tank
-there is a new GBC tank from MV that people seem to like and it's gaining popularity and they say they are good. I have an order placed for one from madvapes - link - The GBC Clearomizers

That's a pretty good starting point imo. However there are other options out there. Just do some research on the product and see which one you can see yourself using! :)

Here is a nice kit that gets recommended a lot: http://www.myvaporstore.com/Vision_Spinner_Joye_Ego_C_Twist_Combo_p/vvs-c.htm

That will allow you to choose two batteries, either spinner or twist type. There are different mAh batteries to choose from. The higher the mAh, the bigger the battery and the longer it will last between charges. Then you also get to choose two toppers. Protank or mini protank is an option for extra $. There are also quite a few other toppers you can choose in the drop down menus.

I see Kanger mentioned quite a bit. Can you elaborate on the issues people have had?

Also, if you were to recommend a top coil or bottom coil to a new user what would your recommendation be?

Top coil or bottom coil is really just personal preference. With top coil you get a warmer vape, but you also have to be aware that the wick is a little more difficult to keep saturated. Many who use top coils are familiar with the 'tilt and swirl' method that will keep your wicks wet. Bottom coils are generally a bit cooler of a vape, but they are easier to keep wet. Bottom coils can sometimes have issues with gurgling, where liquid gets into the center. This can happen for a few reasons which you'd need to troubleshoot. Personally I prefer bottom coils to top coils, but that's just me.

There have been lots of posts discussing possible issues with protanks lately. I use them and they work fine for me. If I get gurgling I can track down the problem and fix it. I make my own coils for it though, so I have no idea if the quality of stock coils has fallen off. I sort of wonder if the increase in problems has something to do with colder weather. Colder weather will affect the pressure inside any tank and cause issues.

I would recommend to any newbie to try a couple of different toppers in the beginning. There's no way of knowing what you'd prefer until you try it. If I were to recommend a bottom coil for a new vaper I'd probably pick the evod. They seem to be less prone to gurgling than the protanks and they are inexpensive. They are plastic though, and you said you'd prefer glass.

I've found this one, seems like it might be a good option. Not sure I need such a huge battery though... I wonder if I can find a starter kit like this with the rainbow battery in a smaller size?
Vision Spinner 1300 mAh VV Rainbow Starter Kit, Vision Spinner

I'd also recommend going with the bigger battery, but I did find that one in a 650 mah. My browser is acting up, but here's one link. Vision Spinner Variable Voltage 650mAh eGo Battery - New Rainbow Color

I also found one at a website called sweet vapes, but I can't get it to open.

Thank you SO much for your help. I was just thinking to myself that if I was going to spend a bit more on a single one that it'd be better to have a larger battery... I guess the thing I'm wondering about is physically HOW much longer is the 1300mAh is compared to say... a 900mAh... I don't wanna feel like I'm puffing on a billy club :)

Some peoepl, Myself included as of about an hour ago, have had juices crack the plastic Evod tanks.

Some of the problems with the other tanks are coils burn out quickly sometimes, because quality control is very bad these days on that front.

Some experience leaking, and flooding (getting too much liquid around the coil and into the air shaft) on the glass tanks such as Protank 1, 2, and 3, with less of these problems occurring in the mini versions. They all use the same coils which seems to be the cause of most issues. If you get into rebuilding your own, as many do, these problems almost disappear completely.

I have no experiance with the Kanger T line of products.

keep in mind for pretty any ego can be wrapped...either with a premade or using tape. had a few wrapped in patterned or hologram tape that were beautiful.

Here are premade wraps.

There are other vendors out there, but personally I like this one. Just MO.

Plus this kit comes with a Kanger t3 Clearo, which I see is a bottom coil... also bottom fill. Is it a pita for bottom fill tanks? Does this kit seem like a good value?

I really do want a pyrex tank... I guess its always an option to just get what comes with a kit now and upgrade later to glass

This kit seems overpriced to me compared to the my vapor shop kit. You are getting a prettier battery, but you are only getting one battery and one clearo, compared to the MVS kit, where you get two batteries and two toppers. Jmo. I'm not sure how important the rainbow color is to you.

I'll be honest, I'm being a little shallow about the rainbow battery
