I have been vaping ONLY ( no analogs ) for about 12 days now.. and today I noticed that the vapor is tasting much more like a metallic after taste than previously noticed???

I have been using a protege with a stainless Atomizer for two days.. but I didn't notice this metallic taste until today.

Any suggestions? Is this just my taste buds adjusting?

Well... I blew out my atomizer by blowing through the battery end... I had some dark, thick liquid come out.. and then I hit it.. and the metallic taste has definitely reduced.

I have been vaping heavily for two days.. and I think one of my "not so good flavors" left a nasty residue. I will try a new atty when I get home.....

Or maybe I should soak this one in something to clean it out a bit? Any suggestions how to clean it out ok without messing it up?

Yup, you're atomizer is telling you it needs to be cleaned. Boil some water, diet Coke, or lemon juice in the microwave. Take the cup out, drop your atomizer in for a few hours or overnight. Rinse well and leave it standing up overnight to dry. I usually stuff a piece of paper towel into the opening to draw out the liquid.

Also make sure you have vaped the cart dry and it's making good contact with the wick.

There's two great videos on YouTube that you can find by searching "electronic cigarette tips" or "e-cig tips". Not sure which model you have. But they'll tell you about cleaning and using. I think the Protégé can use several different types of atomizers, but here's one of the videos...

YouTube - DSE 901 E-CIG USER TIPS AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE

Hope that helps,

Where is the atomizer from? And does it have a washer looking ring at the base of the bridge or metal mesh?

Yeah, I am really confused.. this is what happened. I got a protege in.. along with new juice from myfreedomsmokes... at the same time... that day I only had a little marbro left from LiteCig.. and i just mixed it in with marbro from my freedom smokes.... before I realized I didn't like the new juice flavor! ugn

Anyway.. I gave the joye to my brother.. happy puffing on the new protege started wednesday night... again.. with the new juice that I didn't really like.. but thats ok,... just a bit strong for me.. with a little funky taste that didn't suit me. So anyway, I placed an order for some of the juice from litecig that I know I like.. that should be in tomorrow....

So today.. 48 hours into puffing.. i started to notice a metal'ish taste. Now, I am sure the flavoring from the juice is part of the issue.. or compounding it for me.. I have very very sensitive taste buds... and I could tell something was off. So I blew out the atomiser.. and it got better.. not completely better, but I could tell a difference....

The atomiser is only 48 hours old.. ? It came from pursmoker, its a 510 ... and it looks like a plastic white washer on the bottom ( oval shape ) ,... and around that.. is metal mesh or wiring or something... the bridge has a wick underneath that looks like it is made of fabric.. like a zippo wick.. not the same type that I had before that looked more like a plastic wick.

So.. I am at a loss? If its producing this metallic taste so soon.. that sucks because washing atomizers every two days is going to be a pain. Maybe its part atomizer.. part juice being funky. I don't know. I can say for sure, I know people that like the juice from myfreedomsmokes.. but it is strong, and does have an aftertaste to me.. and it runs through all of my flavors... its almost... soapy tasting.

Anyway.. any suggestions? Some hits I feel like I am sticking my mouth on a brass lamp or something.. very metallic.

It's almost certainly the primer/shipping fluid. Some are stronger than others and blowing it out is the first step and sometimes that does it.

What I'd do is take some high proof clear vodka and drip it into the atomizer bridge and the metal mesh - hold the bottom hole and shake it around a bit, then blow it out, thoroughly. Let it dry out (the higher proof the faster it dries) - I use Galens 151 - $12.

This should help a lot but I wouldn't do anything drastic after that. It will go away. And you might not taste it after the vodka wash. The point of the vodka is that it is for human consumption and leaves no film afterwards like some other fixes you might see here. And it dries quicker than water, which could harm the atty if not dried entirely.

Personally I'd soak it in vodka but I don't recommend it for others, although I know of no instance where that caused the death of an atomizer. Not so with other fixes, even though there are some that haven't lost any doing all sorts of washes. Less is more when cleaning attys. I'd also suggest not pulling the wicking out of the bridge or from around the coil or metal mesh. The wicking is different than the hairlike fibers from the cart filler that sometimes get caught on a barb in the mental mesh - you can carefully remove those with tweezers. No filler should be showing above the cart top when viewed at eye level.

I second the liquor wash, I use PGA that has no drying time but don't be over zealous. You may have blown the wick up into the bridge from the battery end. I always blow a 510 out from the cart end because I know that the wicking can come out on occasion.

Hey, thanks for the advice! You know... this kinda makes sense... now I am wondering... maybe the flavoring I got isn't so bad... maybe all of this.. the metal taste, the strong flavor... etc... was because of the primer fluid.

I was wrong when I typed that above.. the atomizer was from puresmoker..

The only thing that is weird to me.. is at first... when the atomizer was brand new, I noticed a funky taste in my e-liquid.. but it wasn't a metal taste. Then after vaping on it for 24 hours ( I actually swapped attys because I wanted one without a coffee flavor that I tried first ) the metal taste started to become more apparent...like it got worse the more I tried to break it in.

I am going to do the 151 soak tonight. Thaanks for the suggestions!
