Method I'm using to make a perfect coil every time!

Aloha guys and gals!

So I've tried a lot of different ways to make coils...

I've tried wrapping wire around bare wicking, wrapping wire around wicking that's reinforced with something, like a needle, wrapping coil around a thick needle and then threading the wick through the pre-wrapped coil...

Lots of different things...

After a lot of trials, I believe I have finally found a way to make a perfectly round coil, with perfectly even separation, consistently, no matter how many wraps you want to do...

I picked up a pack of 1" long 4/40 stainless steel Machine Screws

Wrap the coil around the screw, using the threads of the screw to cradle the wire, giving you even separation. The 4/40 size is around 4mm, but it ends up being perfect for everything I've used it on so far... Vivi Nova heads, Kanger T3 heads, Vision 2.0 heads... I have my first Genesis RBA and a Phoenix RBA on the way, and suspect it will work fabulous there as well.

Once I wrap the wire around the screw, I hit it with the torch one more time to oxidize it and allow it to keep it's form a bit better. Then I back out the screw, and thread either cotton or silica wick through. I haven't tried a cotton ball, this probably wouldn't work so well with a cotton ball, but anything you can twist into a thin wick, you can thread through nice and easy... I am using a bead threading needle to thread the wick through the coils.

The finished product looks as good, and sometimes even better, than the coils that came from the factory, and they perform outstanding.

After reading the AGA-T+ thread and V Ninja's words of wisdom with regard to SS Mesh wicks, perhaps this wouldn't be the best method for Genesis atomizers, but I've found that it is fantastic for silica and cotton that will expand and provide direct contact between the wick and coil.

Regardless, I wanted to share, so you folks in pursuit of a prettier wrap and get a bit closer to that desired outcome

Wow, haven't tried using a screw yet, but that sounds like a pretty brilliant idea. Especially when doing a lot of close wraps to keep the spacing even.

Yeah...Instead of a drill bit you can substitute a machine screw to set up a genesis atomizer.

That's what did me in, trying to jam 6/5 wrap into the head of a stardust... Not much room in there! The screw makes em tight, neat... Like a machine turned it

I can rebuild the coil while I'm at it, and use the machine screw method, and all the little gizmos I'm using to thread the wick through the coil...

Maybe I'll do 2 separate vids so people don't have to watch a bunch of crap they don't care about... Who knows

Don't thank me yet... Haha! It could be more confusing than educational... I was a technical trainer for 5 years, so I tend to get very specific, as if my audience knew absolutely nothing... It's a fault of mine

It's not a traditional needle... It's made for making bead bracelets... It basically a piece of piano wire that's been looped over, and twisted... So there is a loop at one end and a straight "needle" of twisted piano wire... I stuff the silica wick into the loop, thread the straight end into the coil, and pull it through...

If you have a did type rba you might try using the center post after removing the two top screws. I haven't tried it, but someone suggested it in one of the threads here.

If you're using a drill bit or similar, just wrap your coils really tight and touching each other. They'll probably spring apart a little when you're done, but if they don't, just spread them a little. They'll spring back, but not all the way. You can also leave them touching. They won't short out for some reason. That's been discussed in another thread here also.
