Hello,
New to vaping - about 2 weeks - and already into rewiring my own atomizers. Have been making micro coils using 30 gauge kanthal 9 wraps on a 5/16 drill bit for protank 2 minis on an ego twist. Using cotton wicks and the coils seem to build up very quickly. I think I may be using too much (too thick) of a cotton wick. Would this increase the "burning" of the cotton and coil and shorten the life of the coil?

Thanks
think i'm already hook on this

Sounds more like to big of a wrap. Micro's start at 1/16" wrap, You either ment 5/64" cause I don't think a 5/16 will fit a pt base. Cotton density is critical on a micro build, you want it rolled tight enough to pull through with little resistance, but not so thick as to choke and not wick. When working with cotton, it's a trial and error adventure till you get it just right.

Yes , too much cotton chokes the wick and lets the coil dry out to fast, it takes trial and error a few times to find out how much is just right, I started rebuilding on evod's and had the same problem. But once you get it you can chain vape like a madman and it will last for a few days ( or more ) , you only need to dry burn and do it all over again

My mistake, I meant 5/64 drill. Think I'll have to try thinner wick. have been kinda forcing them through

I make mine a bit under 1/16". I use a eyeglases screwdriver that is 0.058". It's great because I can easily use that to clean out the center of the coil after dry burning. Yes, less cotton is better than more. Too much will lead to burning and wearing out the wick early. Trial works well here. Keep using less and you'll find how little is too little. Here is a thread about micro coils if you want to read more or ask the experts any questions :thumb:
