I just built a 5 wrap Microcoil using 30 gauge kanthal, but it's still reading at 1.4 ohms. Why? Yesterday I did a 9 wrap on 32 gauge and it was like 3.5, so I immediately did another at 8 wraps on 30 and it was 1.7. I'm trying for around. 7 or. 8. I don't get it.. I used the 1/16 drill bit, torched it and put it into the rba.

Curious - why are you under the impression that you can get sub-ohm resistance with 30 ga. @ 7-8 wraps? Off the top of my head, to get a 0.8Ω resistance from 7-8 wraps @ .062" ID, you will need 27 or 26 ga. wire.

Ga...... Ohms/ft./in. @ 68F
24...... 2.04 - 0.17
26...... 3.31 - 0.28
27...... 4.15 - 0.35
28...... 5.27 - 0.44
29...... 6.55 - 0.55
30...... 8.36 - 0.70
32...... 13.1 - 1.09

No idea. I'm completely new to this.

I have 32,28,and 30. Am I able to achieve sub ohm by simply using less wraps?

:?:

Seriously, you shouldn't even be attempting sub-ohm before you know every last detail about super-ohm (above 1 ohm). After that, you also need to know exactly what your batteries can handle (which you may already know, not sure). It is dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.

I managed to get the. 9. Fired it for about an hour and a couple of things happened. 1: I believe a may have burned the cotton cause I'm getting that disgusting painful burn hit. Changed the cotton and is reading 1 ohm now but when I fire the nemesis the battery and tube get unnaturally hot... What's the prob

You definately need to do more research in low ohms and sub ohms. ...

I'm new to building my own coils.
I spent hours, days, weeks reading current and archived threads regarding coil building and battery safety before I made my first attempt.
All of my initial coils have targeted between 2 and 2.5 ohms and all have hit the intended target.
All have been easy to build and have worked flawlessly.

These results because I took the time to thoroughly familiarize myself with the subject.... first.
Sub ohms? Take a breather and spend some time building "standard" coils first!

Sounds like you have a short. The battery shouldn't be getting hot at all. You are well within the amp limitations for the battery at one ohm. Something is wrong if it's getting hot. Either you have a short or the batteries you are using aren't what you think they are. Is the coil stable at one ohm and not fluctuating?

SHORT!....if your battery is getting hot stop!!.......meter your coil again and see where it is......it will let you know if you are shorting and it will also let you know if you went sub ohm......those sony batteries should be good and at 1 ohm you should only be pushing around 4A.........

why are you trying to go sub ohm though? I'm just curious as your questions lead me to believe you are new at sub ohm coils. you can make a good 1ohm micro and get some good clouds and flavor from it. just take your time meter your coils and vape safely

Completely new and unprepared... I'm going to vape on the provari at a higher resistance until I get this right. I used a cheap multimeter showing the batteries were putting out a steady voltage but I don't think I checked the coil other than with the provari ohm reader. Have I ruined the batteries and/or nemesis? I also realized a few times that the battery may have been in wrong. I know, I know... Should have researched this more but in any case, I'm back in the provari until I figure it out

I don't think so. Never had a provari but on a vamo or evic it shouldn't fire. On those it would actually tell you if it shorts. Batteries should be fine if you stopped after they got hot.

But yeah going sub ohm is risky. Until you know how to build your sub ohm coils efficiently you always meter them. Meter after you build. Meter after you test fire. Meter after you fix hot spots etc. I always like to know the readings on everything before I bring the device up to my mouth.

Happy vaping

Sounds like a bad connection. Make sure all the battery contacts/connections are all clean and solidly making contact. Also make sure the coil legs are firmly connected to the posts and your 510 connector is making good contact.

Not sure if you've already done this, but on the Nemesis, take the top cap off and unscrew the positive pin a few turns, screw the atty down flush with the top, then finger tighten the positive pin. Unscrew the bottom button a few turns, put in the battery and screw everything else together, then tighten down the button. Prior to this, you may want to make sure the negative pin in the button is tightened down snug.

It is really good that you have 30 amp batteries, definitely a step in the right direction :thumb:
