Apologies if this post is long winded, but I think a detailed description will better help you in helping me.

I've been building microcoils for over a month now everyday tinkering with set ups in search of finding what suits my preferences. I have a good grasp of how to make them nice and tight with no spaces or hot leads and get them firing properly (in to out) BUT maybe I can't say the same for wicking them. At this point I'm guessing my problems stem from wicking, after so many hours of reading up on here and watching videos about microcoils and wicking them it's the only thing I can think of.

I've tried wrapping on 1/32, 3/64, 1/16, and 5/64 drill bits with wicks only running through them, wicks only running under them, or wicks that do both. My recent builds have varied from .5 ohms to .9 ohms and either dual coil or single coil but my main problem is I'm getting dry harsh hits by my 3rd drag especially if I'm taking long draws. I was having the same experience with builds on my VV device that ranged from 1.2-1.5 ohms. I've often checked to see if I've singed my wicks and they don't show burn marks on em after getting dry harsh hits. On occasion I even get the dry hits and the wicks still appear soaked in liquid.

Prior to getting the "dry harsh hit" my vapor and flavor is great. I've no complaints there, but the enjoyable vaping experience is short lived if after two drags I feel like I'm taking a gamble by taking a third drag. I'm convinced that I'm doing something wrong because there's countless videos out there where people take a larger number of drags and for a longer amount of time with microcoil setups.

Even at times when I've put more than enough liquid (not flooding the deck) where the cotton resembles a fat wet slug, I'll still get a dry harsh hit 2 drags later.

Other things I've tried:
- Using less Cotton
- Threading Cotton through "just right" not choking the wick through the coil nor having too little.
- Taking shorter, 3 seconds or less, draws
- Lining Coils up as close to the air holes as I can
- Nano Coils (IIRC my wicks dried out even faster here unless it was wicked as a "dragon coil")

Stuff I'm using:
- 28GA A-1 Kanthal
- CVS Sterile Cotton Balls
- Nimbus RDA both holes drilled out to 3/32
- HCigar Nemesis Clone

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm using a standard coil setup right now out of frustration but I really want to make microcoils work for me. I've put in too much time to give up.:( If you think pics or videos of my builds would help address my problems I'll post some.

Can you post a pic of one of your builds that is giving dry hits?

Sorry I took long to reply, had to take out my current set up and make a new one for this.

Came out to
.6 Ohm resistance

I usually go with this setup because when I go without cotton on the bottom it'll dry out even quicker.
But this style has caused me problems as well.

Before Wicking:

Pulled Through Some Cotton: ( I rarely ever get it to continue tasting nice after two pulls with only this set up)

Cotton Cloud placed underneath: ( I just got 5 pulls out of this before it going dry. I think that's reasonable for an RDA. I think I'm just tripped out by how peolple make wicking style in the above pic work well. )

Hmm...the only thing I can think of is that you are not allowing the cotton sufficient time to completely saturate, after wicking, before you take your first drag. Some people are under the mistaken impression that cotton is a fast wicker. It's not. Cotton holds a lot of juice, but it's slow to initially absorb juice. Are you soaking the wicks well, after installing them? With a dripper, I put a few drops on the cotton, drip a few more drops in the well, and then wait a few minutes before taking that first drag. Once the cotton is saturated, it will keep up. But it takes a little time to get it initially saturated.
