This has probably been discussed a thousand times but I'm new so here goes...
I recently purchased the microstick/microdrip by Chels from Mini ECIG.
What can I say that hasn't already been said, beautiful pieces of engineering.
This was my very first attempt at building my own coils.
After numerous attempts, the first one (that worked) was 3.8ohm.
I can now build one at 1.8ohm which vapes beautifully in this device.
Problem is, I have big hands and really struggle with the wire, I'm using Kanthal A1 32 AWG.
I don't want to buy pre-made coils if I can help it.
Any advice (apart from buying a bigger rda) as I love this one would be much appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation......

Just took a quick look at device. Looks like a single coil between positive and negative polls. edyle, good input. Thicker wire is a little easier to work with.
Would not worry to much about how pretty coil looks when your finished. Pretty coils take a little time to establish some uniformity. If it fires and taste great, you did a good job.
If you have any additional questions, just hit "like" at bottom right hand corner and I will get back to this thread.

try some 30 gauge or 28 gauge; they will last a lot longer

and there's lots of coilers out there like the kuro coiler. simple, cheap, effective
Hi edyle, thanks for your advice. I'm new to coiling so was unsure of which wire to buy. I'll definitely buy some 28 guage and the kuro coiler looks great. I'm currently using a 2mm drillbit and fat fingers :)

Hi BrotherBob, thanks for taking the time to look at the device and reply, much appreciated.
In hindsight, I probably bought too small a device for my first attempt at coiling, though I do love it.
I can assure you that my coils do not look pretty but they work :)

Just like above Coil jig helps as well as lighted magnification. I go a great LED magnifying glass on a stand for like $20 at Costco, makes a huge difference. You could then use tools instead of your fingers in hard to get in places.
Hi kelleyjo333, thanks for taking the time to reply to my post, I appreciate it.
Really liking your suggestion, I've been peering under a lamp to make a coil, must be an age thing :)

I couldn't do it at all without my lighted magnifier, and I use a coil tool. I also find it useful to hang the base of the thing on the ohmmeter as a convenient build stand, but if that's not heavy enough and you're chasing it around your work station-- not easy to keep it in focus of the magnifier-- they make machined aluminum parts threaded M7 x .5mm to take the 510 connection that are a bit heavier. If even that's too light, try boring a piece of wood the right size to take the aluminum part and sitting it in that.

Hi suprtrkr, thanks for the hat explanation :) Yes, the coil tool and lighted magnifier would seem to be necessary purchases for me. I've actually been building on my mvp3, it's heavy enough but a bit unstable. Plenty of wood in my garage though, hmmm........

FWIW, I bought a tap in M7 x .5mm from China. Took a few weeks to get here, but now I have it. 5 bucks on ebay. And I really don't like building on a mod, or at least not a mod with a battery in it. And if you take the battery out, it's not too heavy and stable any more...

Sorry, what does FWIW mean suprtrkr?
Good point about building on a battery, even if it's turned off, silly me

once I got a coil tool I didn't need a magnifier thingy anymore - not that I was actually able to use a magnifier; one thing i'd still like to get though is one of those hats you can wear that come with a magnifier thing on the front.

Early on I had bought a magnifier glasses thing off fasttech but it was no good because the focus is only less than an inch from the lens; sometimes I use it in monocle mode to read fine print on eliquid or medication bottles.

I have the mini drip and next order I'll get a micro. I also have problems with coils. I cheat with the mini and kayfuns by using the pre guilt egrip coils. They come out 1.4 or so and at 65 cents apiece it's worth it to save fumbling time. Also, what makes them so easy is they have little feet so they can stand up on the posts. Then just support the feet while you tighten the screws. The cotton they come works great with a kayfun but is too short for the mini so I put in a little rayon and I'm good to go.

I love my microdrip!!! one thing that helped me out was using thicker gauge wire (currently using 26 AWG, .9 ohms)

also make sure your coil is installed the "right way"
like this:

-o-

and not like this:

_o_

I hope that made sense...lol. the legs of the coil should be on top, so that you can pull it up after you attach it, without messing it up...

I'm slightly intoxicated, so if my rambling didn't help you, please ignore it.

:)

Hi edyle, thanks for taking the time to reply. I've ordered a kuro coiler, I'll try that before investing in the magnifier.
It's a pain when the eyes start to fail

Hi Arnold Ziffle, thanks for the advice, I'll have a look at these :thumb:
